Hmmm...Let's see here. Anandtech has caused me to spend sooo much money this year: $50 Lexmark Z52 printer from Staples, $115 Logitech Z560's from Dell, $100 shipped for 768Mb Crucial DDR, 80 and 100 and 120 Gb hard drives for about $120 each after rebates, $99 huge leather "Darth-Vader-chair-of-death" office chair from Sam's, "cheap" Lian-Li, Pioneer slot-DVD, etc Arghhhh!!!
The best deal of course was the XPP roadshow. XP1800+ lovin' comin' at me for free! Now if we could only convince them to do this annually... Come on guys, I'm sure that 60 or 70,000 AT sigs could be persuasive!

I think all of you have a rather short memory:

what about the Gateway 6400 server deal? I'm pretty sure that was the longest thread (also longest lived) of the year at the very least.
Or the January $99 Iomega ZipCD that was really a Plextor?
Or the Canon S100's at Compusa for $199?
Or the $199 Radeon 8500 deal?
Or Zwingle's OD Sony Clie deal?
Or Max Payne for $19?
Or (this actually started in Dec. 2000 IIRC) the $125 GF2 GTS?
Or the Nomad Jukebox at bluelight?
Or the HP burner/Rio 500 deal?
Or the OD chair deals? The soda deals?
Or the GF3 or whatever it was at CDRExpress?
Or the $50 bank (was it IDG Direct?) deal?
and so on.

You know what, even if none of these deals is really that great, people here still manage to post about it.

Poor year for deals overall. All the stupid companies were already out of business. However, there is one that stands out FAR above all:

Compusa gleneyre + handspring visor deluxe $99 plus $100.00 mail in rebate. If I get that rebate it can not be beat...

Big if I know.

I'll nominate the following:

1. Microsoft's Windows XP Professional with Lava Lamp for $52
2. Best Buy's GeForce 3 Ti200 for $99. I am still waiting for my rebate though.
3. Best Buy's Western Digital 60GB hard drive for $50. Same story with rebate as in #2.

Best deal of the year was the day my computer system died and I couldn't get online for a day...yes, a full 24 hours without reading the whining and moaning at Anandtech :Q

I have to disagree about what kind of year it was - it may not have been as good as previous years, but it WAS still a GREAT year for deals. I got in on over 15 great digital camera deals this year, more than 10 CD burners, 20 or so handheld PCs, 6 printers, 3 scanners, 4 monitor deals and a crapload of other HOT deals throughout 2001. I guess that type of year one had is commensurate with one's effort in finding and taking advantage of those hot deals.

The hottest merchandise deal for me this year was the Minolta Dimage 7 5.24 megapixel digital camera on November 21st. Bought 2 at around $279.00 (net) after MSN and PM, sold 1 for $829, and that more than paid for the one I kept...awesome $1,500.00 retail camera with a superb lens, but it absolutely decimates my batteries.

Honorable mentions:
1. 1.9% interest from one of my existing credit cards...nearly free money

2. Three Sony FD95 digital cameras from CompUSA - two @ $249.95, one at $0.00 :Q

3. HP 215 digital camera + accessory kit at Staples around June...ended up getting paid around $250 to take that piece of crap after a bunch of pricematches/coupons.

4. Staples $10.00 off $10.00 coupons that my entire family and relatives used to pick up over $400.00 worth of merchandise for free.

5. Staples - for ALL of the dozens of coupons, pricematches and freebies that they gifted to me and my family this year. Staples STILL rocks.

WORST deals of the year:
1. Philips CD burner from WorstBuy...21 weeks and counting on the rebate, though I did get the BB rebate, sold the burner, and got $20 from Amex BVG to boot. Philips has earned the distinction of being the only company to be added to my sh*t list this year (that's the list of companies I will not do business with in this lifetime).

2. Dell - everything Dell did this year...and every year. Dreadful customer service, insanely long hold times on the phone, being transferred from department to department and even being passed back to the same person multiple times, excruciatingly slow delivery times, never knowing if your merchandise is on its way or not, and the list goes on and on. Dell is the company from Hell. Yet I still bite when they have deals that nobody else does - I guess I'm a glutton for punishment

3. PhotoAlley.

[Edit]: thanks to everyone that took the time to post some fantastic deals throughout this year.

Have to agree that the guy who got the 3 Plasma and 1 Projector got the deal of the year. Approx $30,000 worth of goodies for only $1400.

I've only started reading this forums this year and I have already spent way too much money.

Thanks to AT I'm a proud owner of the AMD XP1800.
Got in on the deal with Win XP from Staples. Both Digi Cam and CDR.
Got the Canon S110 for only $180 shipped!
SB Live for almost free!
LOTS of CDR and most where free. Even got paid for some!
Andara Barebone PC that my gf now uses.
Lots of 802.11b hardware...
Sony 64MB memory stick for only $15
the list just goes on.

I'm looking forward to next year, but my wallet doesn't!
Thanks AT!

Man, I made about $3000-$4000 off selling those .01 Black Attache cases from Staples. That happened around the beginnin of the year. I had a distributor buy them for $7 each to resell at $40 each. Who the hell would buy those for $40??? hehe. Oh well. THat was my deal of the year.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the HP 9900ci 12/10/32/8 CD-RW/DVD drive for free after rebate deal!

I got in on it twice. Bought one from Gateway when we thought there was only a $50 rebate, then bought another from Dell.

Both were about $100, and with the $100 HP rebate (which came through) were free, besides the fact that $100 was a great deal as well

Sold one to a friend so he could get the rebate, so I made a little profit as well.

Only problem I have with the drive is that there's no hacked firmware for it. <shrug> If I had non region 1 DVDs I guess it would be an issue.

I would say the free Sprint PCS wireless modem and 2 month free service is definetely worth a nomination.

There is a difference between a FREE giveaway and a deal. That was the point I was trying to get across! Most HOT Deals have some cost associated with them. Does that explain it better?

For me it will be Andara barebones for $69 and the recent 4x256MB PC133 for $68 shipped, Crucial memory from Dell.

Was the LCD at OD (OM?) deal last year or early this year?
There was a *huge* thread where the fellow in the know was telling people which stores still had them in stock.

Philips DirectTivo at Circuit City for $99 with a $100 rebate. Heck, the 40GB drive alone in the unit is worth the $99 at the time. Just got rebate last week!

It seems nobody mentioned the NeoV Office Max monitor deals back in February.

I got me a HP M70 17" new for $45.40 ($90 + $5.40 tax - $50 MIR)

-and-

I got a Compaq MV70 17" new + JBL Pro Speakers for $6 ($100 + $6 tax - $100 MIR)

Using both. Best deal for me since I only go after what I need for me, not to eGay and take all so others can't score.
