In my opinion, when we talk about the Deal of the Year, we should not include those deals that need the AMEX Blue's PM coz many of us do not have Blue card. We should nominate a deal that everyone could have jumped into. The Dell's 42" plasma TV for $350, only one lucky ass (HashBrown) could get it so it should not be the deal of the Year.

I am surprised no one mentioned the Iomega 4x4x6 External burner deal for $25 after MIR from Staples in the beginning of the year. Maybe this HOT deal is too old? What about the Iomega 12x10x32 internal burner from OM? They pay you $10 to keep the burner?!

Hm...what about marrying your girlfriend and get a son/daughter, or even a twin?! This must be the HOTTEST deal in your whole life!!!

The hottset deal of all is of course this forum. I have saved so much money on hot deals that I am broke.

Dell has been the favorite for me so far:
1)HP 9900c DVD/12x Burner for $8
2)Epson 880 Printer for $30 back when it was over $120
3)Samsung 19" 950P for $162 Delivered
4)Belkin Ehternet Cards for .$95

Plus the Office Max XP Professional deal with free HP 2100 scanner (replaced w/2200), 12x CD Burner (replaced w/16x), 256MB PC133 Memory, Mcafee AV 6.0, and Web Cam for $160!

  • If the deal ever comes through for most of us, I'd have to vote for the 0.95 NICs from DELL.

  • Since that looks a bit iffy at this point, then the hands-down winner has to be the WinXP plus sparkle lamp deal. I'm not usually impressed with Microsoft's OS releases, but this XP is working pretty well and have yet to see a blue screen of death.

Merry Christmas and Happy Shopping....

Here are the deals I got in on : (no particular order)

1. Humvee and VTech Trekker $15each shipped from amazon plus numerous $10GCs from them
2. Kodak DC3400 $60 from Staples (thanks to Seattle store sales for this)
3. HP 9900ci CDRW/DVD $8 from Dell
4. 6 Motorola 2-way radios FREE from OD
5. Sony Clie S300 $80 from Staples
6. Sony Clie S300 $10 from OD
7. Target clearence items
8. Visioneer 7600 USB scanner $20
9. Sony DCR-TRV730 $590 from Cameraworld.com after Amex Blue pricematch with Regencycamera + free memory stick Mouse (the deal is still available if anyone is interested)
10. Columbia House $10 DVDs - This is a deal that keeps giving - still going on.
11. Pacific Digital CDRW $6 after MIR from Staples
12. 100 GB Western Digital Harddisk $119 from Sam club after $100MIR. Still available till 12/31/01
13. Philips CDRW FREE from Best Buy (eventually, once I get my $40 Philips rebate, hence number 13 on my list)

Deal I most regret missing: (and these are ones which a lot of people did get in on, unlike the plazma screen deal, Not)

DEAL OF THE YEAR NetBank's 5.25% Home Equity Loan. This deal was by far the best deal of the year. Just imagine saving tens of thousands of dollars for a mere $10 closing cost. Man I still get a tear in my eye (actually I ball my eyes out) when read about this deal, sniff sniff.

I also regret not getting in on the Dell 900MHz Celeron machine for $285.

Makes me smile reading this list!

My favorites include the $52 and free version of XP Prof I have, the $30 Nomad Jukebox (and sincere apology for cancelling my initial order) from Bluelight, and the $145 Fuji 2600 I just bought last week to replace the $150 Fuji 1400 Anandtech deal from last year!

And lest we not forget the thousands many of us are saving from reconsolidating our college loans a few months back !

That would be my nominiation, but don't forget that it was less than $749 for most because of the $75 5GB hard drive credit. I also got a $50 rebate on the notebook because I had bought a qualifying printer as well. Shipping was only ~$5 too IIRC. Great deal.

Updated my original post to include a few things I forgot:

HOT:

Staples $10.00 off $10.00 coupons that my entire family and relatives used to pick up over $400.00 worth of merchandise for free.

Staples - for ALL of the dozens of coupons, pricematches and freebies that they gifted to me and my family this year. Staples STILL rocks.

1.9% interest from one of my existing credit cards...nearly free money

NOT HOT:
PhotoAlley.

AND...
Thanks to everyone that took the time to post some fantastic deals throughout this year.

1. Best Buy - day after Thanksgiving Sale - getting price adjustment on the gforce
and hard drive - watching everyone fight for merchandise

2. Staples scanner and 3 piece logitech - near free after rebate

3. Target HP combo - can't believe you guys didn't kill this one: HP 318 camera
+ HP1000 printer w/ $100 rebate, $75 coupon in the store

4. Viewsonic denying the rebate and then we got it

5. Recent toy blowout at Best Buy - mindstations, leapfrog, etc

6. The Philips cd burner ( the one we are waiting on the rebate), bought it, learned of a new ad , got a price adjustment, then a BBY rebate, and a philips rebate that takes 20 weeks - think we made a buck on this one

7. The Andara case from Overstock - I got three bad ones, everyone else had fun

8. The test drives

9. The Sephora
10. Best deal of all - like minds getting together!!

<< How come no one vote Gateway 6400 server is the best, I think the Gateway and WinXP is the deal of the year. >>

Yeah I can't believe that this deal did not even make the first page. A full-fledged server for $500 and less... That was great, so was the thread that it created and the fact that it went down to $350 or so if people got really creative

Yo
