For 2002 its gotta be Hard drives and CD burners!

I've gone from 30GB to 240GB and from 16x to 48x, in several steps, and made money doing it! Thanks AT.

I'll nominate my own recent posting: Dell 2000FP for as low as $799.00. That monitor's list price was ~$1400, and it was the first time I had seen it for under $1000, period. First affordable 20" UXGA LCD monitor. Also, a big plus: no coupons, MIRs and/or PMs.

There have been plenty of other great deals though, that's for sure.

Was the Compaq 17in monitor for $13.99 at Staples this year or last?

If it was this year...it's got my vote.

Rossman is GODLIKE (why doesn't he work for techbargains?)
Isn't there a Greek God of hot deals of some sort?

My vote is $70 Dell if it goes through, or $499 with LCD

Damn, CPU alone is $190

my vote goes to all those Dell deals with free LCDs and 1200JB for $50 from CUSA or Fry's (although I didn't get it )

My votes:

1. Pioneer VSX-D850 Receiver for $268 at local BestBuy. The store employee just can't believe this unit is selling for less than VSX-D810.

It sounds so much better than the receiver in the acclaimed Onkyo home theater in a box from CircuitCity. I returned the Onkyo immediately.

2. JBL N38 floor standing speaker for $99 each with free shipping at buy.com (Even less with coupon). The shipping of those two monsters can easily cost them $30 each... I guess the UPS guy start hate me from that day on.

3. Western Digital 120 GB 8MB cache Special Edition for $58 after rebate from Dell.

I'd like to add this: Fry's CPU/mobo combos. Unbeatable prices... plus they usually let you return just either the CPU or board.

I honestly think that the Dell FP2000 20" Flat Panel from last week is the hottest ever. People were calling it a hot deal (SMOKING HOT!!!) When it was selling for $1150 2 weeks ago. The $750 + tax ($794 for me) is just so amazing, and there are NO REBATES, this, to me, is UBER-SIZZLING-HOT!!!

I'll nominate the deals I actually used:

1. OfficeMax Cyberdyne DVDROM free after rebate (assuming I get it)
2. OfficeDepot $20 off $50 purchase in-store coupon, combined with sale on office chair, for $40 for a $100 chair
3. WinXP Pro for $40 (+$8 shipping)
4. Gogamer $9.95 deals

Congratulations to RossMan for his promotion to Chief Ferengi!

Thanks to all the Hot Deals posters for a wonderful year! Happy Holidays, all!

EDIT:
5. The Target clearance Z-360's for $23, no PM, no Rebate.

The Super Duper Hot Deal prize goes to all those who have helped others in AT forums, in the techie discussions and the Off Topic I-need-emotional-support threads. Thanks to all of you!

It might have been last year (I'm tired, can't remember anything) but the Compaq Premier Sound System for $20 was a hell of a deal (400w peak, 140w RMS subwoofer)

1 - The year is not over yet this thread should be locked until 01.01.03

2 - Who sets the criteria - I think there are many aspects that make a deal a deal and similarly many that make a supposed good deal not a deal.

3 - My suggestion is that this would have to be a product that is current (not reduced because it is about to be discontinued), generally affordable (sure a $900,000 house in malibu would be cheap but who can afford it), and many people should have a demand for it and have gotten in on it (typically products under $1000). Moreover obvious price mistakes should not be counted (they are errors not honest offers and thus not deals).

Given all the above I'll let you know my decision ..........after 01.01.03

I am a fan of the following deals:

- HP d135 All-in-one for $50 or free after pm, $200 substitute dicount, $30 coupon, and $80 GC (at staples)
- Envision 17" Flat CRT for a few bucks back, after PM, Coupon, $85 rebate, and $50 rebate (at staples)
- Philips 19" Flat CRT for $40 after PM, Coupon, $80 rebate, and $50 rebate (at staples)
- WD120JB for $60~$70 after $100 rebate (at dell)
- PNY 512mb PC133 for $-7 After PM and rebate (at staples)

actually... the best deal of the year is just Staples. Staples brought us so many good deals with combinations of their PM policy, coupons, and rebates!

The $99 AR Geforce4 Ti200 64MB at BB a couple of months ago was also sweet.

<snip>

Actually, the Ti4200 was 128 MB and $89 AR.. I'm watching my mailbox everyday for that rebate.

My vote for DotY HAS to go to the ultra-long Credit Card Hot Deals thread if anybody can remember that. It was perhaps one of the most invaluable and informative threads I had ever read, and I wish it were still around, but credible knowledge will always be the Hot Deal for me. (Hurry up and get your degrees, folks!)

Hey RossMAN, if you do move to kangaroo country, how's about selling your Accord to me?

And as for physical items, I think I'd have to vote my 12" Infinity IL-120s 500-watt Subwoofer for $299 with $0.01 shipping. That was a helluva deal for me, although my back gives out every time I try to lift the damn thing up...eesh, it's heavy (and LOUD).

Very good call on the Credit Card Hot Deals thread ... that was one of my alltime AT favorite threads along with some of the finance threads (Honda Accord SE, refinance your mortgage, student loans new rates, etc.) ... you should check out FW's Finance forum, excellent forum.

Are you willing to fly up to Portland to buy the Accord and drive it back to Texas or pay for me to drive it to Texas for you?

I think the most appropriate thing would be to arrange some kind of delivery service. I'll have to check into those and see how much they cost.

Although I'm sure the drive either way would be quite fun...

I surely hope that you're joking about buying my Accord ... although I have taken great care of it you could get a better deal locally.

Crazy AT'ers.
