Cell Phone Deal

Saw this from our good friend that posts the CompUSA ads on his web site. I'm referring to the Nextel deal ($99/month for unlimited blabbering) - I know $99/month might be expensive for some of you, but for me - that's about 60% lower than what I pay for now for how much I use the phone.

At any rate - anyone have any comments on these phones. Are they good? Do they suck? Know any information about that "2-way radio feature"? Any information is greatly appreciated and if I posted this in the wrong forum, I apologize ahead of time. On the other hand, this might be a nice deal for someone else too......

My dad's business partners use it and they love it... although I prefer other phones, they haven't had any problems with them.

Alright - the scoop on the Nextels.

They run on radio signals similar to that of those used by truck drivers. The result is that you get a signal where most phones have problems.

As for the two way radio - it was really useful when I was with my last company b/c I could instantly pop a msg to anyone on our Nextel network, anywhere in the nation, instantaneously. The only problem is that you need to establish a network of people you know w/ Nextel plans. And although $170 for two would be saving a bit of money, $99 is the standard price for a single phone.

As far as plans go, $99 seems good if you make a lot of long distance calls and you travel a lot. Otherwise, if you just stay in your "home" area and make LD calls or if you travel around CA and make calls back to your "home" area, you could get virtually unlimited no charge minutes from the other carriers for about half that.

I've been looking at this plan and it expires March 31. What they don't tell you is you gotta sing a 2 years contract. It's unlimited the first years and then 900 minutes the second year. But you only get free long distance the second years not the first years. If someone have any more infos please let me know. Check this out BUY.COM

I knew there was a catch...900min in teh 2nd year....then they charge ya $0.15/min...that's outrageous. I live in CA and about 99% of my LD calls are in CA....If anyone knows a web page I can look at that can help me w/deals for like in state only stuff....please tell me. I roughly talk about 2500-3200 min a month...a lot of phone use...and this conventional phone stuff ain't cutting it much..too expensive.

Sprint ROCKS!
I have a sprint phone and I pay 40 a month for nationwide 2000 minutes. It's 500 peak and 1500 off peak. I think for like 50 I can get 3000 minutes or something. That's like between 1-2 cents per minute. I love it!

Either go Sprint or ATT then - free nationwide LD for either. And since you're in state most of the time, it'll cost you probably about $50 to get those minutes.

Well - looks like Sprint is having a 5000 bonus night and weekend internet offer. You might want to look into this. Sprint

All this cell phone stuff is so damn confusing...so many plans out there...this many minutes, off-peak, nights, weekend...aww...so much! Can't there be just a simple plan of pay $xx a month for unlimited calls anywhere in your state or the USA....that's what I'm looking for...I could care less how much the phone costs to buy...
