Clipping, lighting, smoking, and letting the butt go out (never stub out a fine cigar) are a fine and relaxing ritual...best done with a glass of port or brandy nearby...one that would take too long to fully describe in this reply. A couple hints:

1) Don't clip too much off the end so that the entire "cap" comes off
2) Don't touch the flame to the tip of the cigar...hold it close enough so that it catches fire from the heat, not the flame
3) Don't inhale the smoke like a cigarette

Agreed.
On the "instructions", I switched to a punch cutter a while ago and really like that. On lighting, I prefer a quartz type of lighter, to avoid flameup.
As far as brands go, I like Fuente; Punch are decent, CAO are good.
I added a small humidified humidor to my arsenal a couple of years ago.
