As you all know, there is a $50 off $200 with free shipping at Gateway's Accessory Store. See any of the bargain sites for the coupon code.

With the $50 rebate, the 100Gb WD1000JB Special Edition is just $188 and the 120Gb WD1200JB is just $211.

I've asked a couple times but haven't got an answer. Is the 1000JB as fast as the 1200JB?

Edit: NM...Just looked it up @ SR. The 1200JB is faster. The 1000JB is still good, but not quite as fast as the 1200JB.

Go to Storagereview.com's site and check out the review, you'd be surprised the difference the 8MB of cache makes! It puts it up there with the X15's!

Although its nice, the 8MB cache isn't really going to do much for you unless you're running some type of server. These large caches are mainly meant for servers who get hit by request all the time. There really isn't any point to have an 8MB cache that you'll probably never touch with a normal desktop workstation. Still, nice drive.

This is not true at all.. The 8mb cache on the drive is optimized for desktop applications. If you all would actually take a look at this page, you'd see that the 8Mb cache improves drive performance under real world desktop and gaming tasks by 40% to 60% over the 2Mb cache model. The extra cache doesn't do much at all for server tasks, because it is optimized for desktop applications and games. This is not a server drive with extra cache optimized for server tasks; it is a desktop drive.

Do some research. Use for server applications is about the only way these drives have performance issues.

Has anybody run these in a RAID 0 setup? Does the extra cache do any good there or does RAID simulate server performance?
