The best deal on Verbatim's is usually at Sam's Club ($59.99 for 3 ten packs = $2 apiece), so this is worth getting if you use DL.

If you're new to dual layer disks, Verbatim's are the only DL disks which are reliable with every burner and player. YMMV on pretty much any other brand.

how are they guitarizt? They dont fall apart at all or nothing? It seems most brands of DL disks have serious issues. I know verbs are supposed to be the best, but.... I wanna make sure they dont have problems with layers spiliting apart and such like other brands.

great with xbox360 and i just burned a pirates of caribbean 2 on it and worked perfectly

other DL's have a serious problem on normal dvd players when switching layers

Sony DVD+R DL that are made in Singapore are the same as Verbatim DVD+R DL. Both have media code MKM 001.

Yeah, this is a great deal, and I am in for a pack or two. I've burned about 30 of these at 6x on my Plextor with fantastic results.

I'm wondering though, why would anyone want DVD-R DL over DVD+R DL? With booktype setting, +R's are the best media out there.

I've hit one recent DVD player doesn't like DVD+R discs with booktype set, so it's not 100% (up till then, that HAD been my experience).

My 1st generation dual-layer BENQ has too many errors with even Vebatim discs (1620 model). Layers cause skipping on DVD players, and 2-3 discs already have gone bad (less than a few months).

Just a warning to anyone with a 1st generation burner out there.

How do you know the results are fantastic? Because they verify? Will they still verify this time next year? Try running CD/DVD Speed Disk Quality Test on them and compare them to good single layer media - you'll see what I'm getting at. There is NO dual layer media worth squat... and that includes Verbatims.

While dual layered disk may not look so good in a speed and quality test, all of the ones I've made work perfectly in my DVD player. As long as you use them for video and not important data, they're fine.

I know what you mean about price - most likely, the price will fall when/if either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD "wins" and becomes widely used.

But since I like to burn a lot of DVD's, and I am not willing to lose video/audio quality to shrink them onto a single layer, I am left with two choices. I can either go the extra steps to span the movies across two disks, losing both time to create and convenience to watch, or I can pay another $1 or so per disk and burn the full movie from an ISO file when I want.

The extra cost is annoying, but still worth the time saving to me.

Verbatims are the best from what I've seen. However last week BB had 20 packs of Memorex (Ritek) DVD+R DL disks for $12.99 ($.65/each).

I burned a few already and the results have been pretty good. My finicky old Panny A-120 actually played a DL disk for the first time ever. IF the Panny plays it it must be good. That thing is notoriously picky.

I haven't actually used any of the Verbatim discs although I am sure that they must be the best since everyone says so. If they drop below $1 per disc I'll try some. I have burned some Ritek and Ricoh DL discs that were < $1 per disc and have yet to have a bad burn. I'm using a Benq 1640 on one computer and a Benq 1650 on another so I'm thinking a lot of the problems people have with other brands of discs could possibly be a problem with their burners.

Without getting too technical or anything, verbatim is awesome. If you're bored you can read forums that go into the media codes and stuff of different brands of media.

I don't think I'm too picky, I've used some philips dvd+rs made in taiwan for the movies I don't mind compressing and I've had pretty good results so far. Occasionally I'll get a bad burn but I don't mind spending the extra time to redo it on a different disk. My friend got some crappy memorex dvd+rs from best buy and the scan results have been good on those too so far. But as you can see already in this thread people can be very opinionated when discussing different types of media so you kind of have to form your own opinion and take comments with a grain of salt.

FYI - you are better off with DVD+R. The reason is because you can set the BookType to DVD thus making your burns have much better compatibility with standalone players. This is not possible with DVD-R due to limitations of the physical media. The BookType is usually settable by using hacked firmware and a BookType set utility for your burner. For example, on NEC drives, Liggy's firmwares are typically used.
