oh btw, Nero just listed firmware 2.02 but not the manufacturer. I pulled the drive back out and found the white sticker on the bottom of the drive says AOpen in the lower right corner in very small letters.

What are the markings on the outside of the box? Is there a model number or something to indicate what drive you have? I know that Cendyne repackages drives and has a different serial number or model number on the outside of the box.

Can others that got the HiVal and NTI software post their findings as well?

When I go to pick up the drive, If they have any others, I'd like to be able to compare serial numbers or model numbers and get the Aopen drive with the Nero software. I'm sure others would as well.

Salvador, The outside of my box has no serial numbers on it. On the front of the box there is a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" sticker that says "Nero Free CD Recording Software Included". The model number listed on the box is DR-CDRW2440....I hope this helps you.

I bought one for in-store pick up at the Racine, Wi store. Hopefully, it's the AOpen drive with the Nero software.

Thanks for info on the markings guys. I think I will be able to tell by the model number what drive I will be getting.

My label also says manufactured by Top-G in China. It came with NTI software and not Nero.

Looks like I got a BenQ/Acer (2410A) drive with the NERO software. Are these drives any good? It looks sort of cheap to me.

Anybody have any experience with the BenQ/Acer burners? After getting in on the Pacific Digital (Liteon 48x) + modem for $20 after rebate, this doesn't seem to so hot to me. Sure, I can use a $10 cd burner, but it weighs very heavily on rebates ($40 worth). I think if it would've been $10 less actual price and a AOpen drive instead of this BenQ/Acer, I would probably keep it. After looking at the drive though, it just doesn't seem worth keeping. I guess I'm just too spoiled with some of the other deals I've gotten here on the Deals Forum at AT.
