Fri. morning ShellShocker - pretty much an aluminum variant of Antec's legendary SLK3000 design. Measurements suggest it is a bit deeper than the Antec, but still may be tight for really long cards. Other than that it's likely a bit flimsier as 0.8mm aluminum isn't as strong as 0.8mm SECC, but makes up for that in lightness (listed at 12.3 pounds). The innards are identical to the 3000 design: removable, properly oriented HDD rack with anti-vibe grommets, etc. Only the silver, no window version. Enjoy.
$50.00 free ship - unlikely to find a better buy in an aluminum case any time soon. I'd still say the Rosewill R560x boxes are better overall, but they're not Al.

I've had one of these for a few years - great case! Truly tool-less. Yes, longer cards are really tight up against the HDD rack - my 6800GTs mean I pretty much can only get 2 HDDs in there. Someday I'll go to shorter (and newer!) vidcards, but until then.... Case is a bit "flimsy" feeling but I've had no problems working on it either laid flat or hung over at a 45deg angle (tight space) so I wouldn't worry about that. The side door is really easy, it and the front door can be key-locked if so desired. I'm not a fan of the blue lighting, but that was easy enough to not connect. Two 120mm case fans, though I'm on my *third* rear fan for reasons that completely escape me!

The free shipping makes the price quite attractive - if I could convince myself to build another rig, I'd be really tempted!

Looks like Tt did a sloppy job with the rear fan grill - looks much more restrictive than the original 3000 - I guess they couldn't afford to cut out as much metal as Antec did in their .8mm SECC to still have any strength. So, I'd cut the whole thing out and stiffen with a standard, wire fan grill. Should make life much easier on the rear fan. Of course a buyer today would have enough left to buy one of my CoolerMaster ball bearing fans which should hold up better to the back pressure than the OEM sleeve bearing fans...

I have had a similar case from them for years. It is a pretty good case for the money. Mine is black. Nice thing about this one is they appear to have taken away the side vent. The vent had a tube that ran down to the CPU. It sounds like a great idea on paper. The CPU suck fresh cool air down through the tube. The problem is it sucked up so much dust the heatsinks of my C2D processors got clogged. Since taking that contraption off my processors run flawless.

I built my brother a system with the Tsunami Dream (black, with a window).

Overall it's a decent case, but the use of plastic and thin aluminum shows in places. For $50 and with free shipping, this is a GREAT deal though.

can this be painted black and not look like ass? I dig this price, but not the silver (rocking silver aluminum case for the previous 4 years--needs a change)

I know nothing of modern spray paint technology

Aluminum has quite a coefficient of thermal expansion, so it takes special treatment to get any kind of adhesion, but it can be done - I'm pretty sure they manage it on Ferraris, Lambos, Shelby Cobras, etc.

true. ...though I suppose I don't want to shell out the $$$ for such treatment.

You mean CompuCase LX-6A19?

Truly tool-less.

How do the HDDs and motherboard install again?

Heh, looks like Newegg ran out and aren't getting any more (deactivated item). I bought one, just 'cause.

Used to have the CompuCase version (gave it to a friend and he still uses it). I modded mine by cutting out the rear fan grill. The expansion slot "toolless" clips were pretty useless IMO. Didn't fit some cards, wouldn't hold securely on others. I remember getting that CompuCase from Newegg BITD for $40 with a 300W Heroichi PSU.

The cheap aluminum case that I really miss is the Cooler Master Mystique that was at SVC for the longest time, sometimes as cheap as $35 + shipping with a rebate. Got one and sold it to a friend, but now wish I kept it.

I got in on that deal.. In fact, I have just removed my main system from it and it is now in its box awaiting reassignment I really like it... it is a real good looking case. The biggest issue I have had with it is that it has limited cable management options...

I loved the Antec SLK3000! There is still one in service in this building, in fact. I would have bit on this deal if I had a need atm... I was somehow able to resist.

HDDs are thumbscrews (through nice rubber grommets), IIRC the mobo snaps onto plastic clips - but it's been ages since I did that part of the install.

Zap,

Yes, the 6A19 did come first, but the 3000 really popularized the design. Has been until recently still available as the Rosewill R6A series and the same under the Compucase name at the Egg.
