AT Cicuit City web site only (can't get MSN reward at B&M stores):

Western Digital Internal EIDE 80GB 7200RPM Hard Drive (8 MB cache)
Brand/Model: WDC WD800JBRTL

$119.99 - $40 Circuit City MIR = $79.99 +Tax & FREE SHIPPING
(sorry don't know how to link because of CC's session IDs)

Go through MSN Holiday Rewards to get back 20%:
($119.99 + TAX) x 20% = approx $26 MSN Dollars (depending on tax rate)

MSN Dollars are NOT cash so it's not money back to you, but you can spend it like cash at participating store(s) when the promotion is over (Feb 03).

Net cost

$119.99 - $40 Circuit City MIR - $26 MSN Dollars = approx. $54 NET EXPENSE

Go through a portal like ebates or upromise, save additional 1% also: ~ $1.3 (for those who say every bit helps)

* Promotion runs from 11/25/02 - 12/16/02. The dates are subject to change.

so the rewards thing... its not like they cut u a check or credit ur CC... they just put $ in ur msn wallet and u have to spend it again, without the option to take the cash and pocket it?

Thanks I snagged one. While I was on the phone w/ my CC company updating my zip, they ran out of shippable ones, so I get to take a trip to the store and pick it up today.

Nice deal! They don't seem to have any for shipping, but the local instore pickup is easy, and you get it faster too.

Something extra for those into DVD-audio. CC seems to have the best prices around on these discs (saw it posted on an audiophile site yesterday). I picked up the Eagles' Hotel California for $13.99, minus the 20% for using my MSN wallet. Free shipping on these too, so final cost was $11.19 plus local tax. Not bad at all!

I noticed that the MSN Wallet thing says you get "up to $100 back". Is that total, or per purchase?

The total $100 rewards per account can be doubled to $200 per household, just set up another MSN wallet - if so desired.

Just wondering. I ordered two, one for me, one for my friend. Will that be valid for rebate purposes?

gosh. this is a nice deal. Newegg has them for $114 free S&H. i picked up the 80 gig to match my other one and after tax and what not...it should be $130-$40MIR=$90 total. not bad at all. this is also the first time ive ever picked up a RETAIL HD. in the past, it has always been a new OEM packaged one from the net.

thanks for the heads up theshamu.

That may be invalid. Here's part of the fine print on the rebate form:

The above listed items must have been purchased during
the listed sales dates. Forms must be postmarked within
30 days from date of purchase. By submitting a rebate form you
certify that the above rebate items are for personal
use only and not for resale. Allow 8 weeks from
postmark date for processing of your rebate. Rebate is
valid for customer name on sales receipt only.
Not
responsible for lost or misdirected mail. This rebate
form and sales receipt will not be returned.

thanks for the heads up theshamu.
You are welcome!

Just picked mine up, and was surprised (and happy) to see it's an 8meg cache model. Don't know if all 7200 80gig WD's are that way, but I wasn't expecting it, so it's a bonus.

would it be possible to pricematch the rebate price with staples? i hate rebates... coupons + pm seems like a better deal. think it'd work?

Yeah, 2 years ago we received actual $$ off of the purchase. Instant discounts are nice.
