Hah, sometimes I wonder if that's a good way to rationalize a financial commitment...
Not at all. But I could tell he wanted it, and I felt like adding fuel to the cash fire. :awe:

Since I don't feel like starting a new thread about it, out of curiosity, haggling for used cars could go even better than new, right? Finally found a truck I want that looks nice (from the net) from a pretty large looking dealership. Listed for $5,807...what would be a lowball?

I hate to be that guy but I've gotta say it.. Needs to be at least a little lower... at least to fill the wheel wells. (note, Im in the same position still :$ )
If your first offer doesn't offend them, you haven't low-balled them enough.
Their listing price should not be relevant to your offer. You should not base your success or failure off of a comparison between the price paid and the listing price.
The only thing the listing price tells you is if they are reasonable people to negotiate with. That's a pretty wide net, but on one end is too good to be true and on the other end is laughably high.
Yeah, black Karthoum wheels. I wasn't sure at first, but I liked them when I saw the car.
And it definitely will be lowered eventually, maybe next summer. Looks like a tractor, but it's alright for now since we get alot of snow here.

There's some good advice for negotiating here. Have you guys ever used Truecar.com to get the lowest reported price in the area and start from there? Would that be useful in an opening salvo of negotiating?
What about on new cars? For example, I'm thinking about getting a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T base model with auto. They seem to be around 30,000 to 32,000. Is there any wiggle room to get it to 28,000 or so?
