(keep in mind it's Canadian money, so don't compare to US prices...)
I went to a VW dealer to see a 2007 GTI with 104,000KM (64,000 Miles), DSG tranny, leather, sunroof, 18" wheels. It was advertised on VW's web site as Certified PreOwned, so 2 years 40,000km warranty, for 17,995$.
After trying it, we sit down and the first thing the seller says is that the CPO warranty is 1000$ extra. (wtf?) He says he can come down a bit on the price (now 19000$), but his boss probably won't go under 18000$.
I tell him I'll take it for 17500$. He comes back after a few minutes with 18250$. I say I'll think about it and start to get up from my chair, but he says he can make a last try. Comes back with 18100$. So I thank him, and leave.
So what do you guys think? Anything I should've done differently? I wanted to buy it, but would've felt dumb walking out of there paying more than the advertised price...
