I'm ordering online, are Fuji's always TY?

I've never seen a Fuji spindle that wasn't made in Japan Taiyo-Yuden. The spindle of 50 of I got 2 weeks ago from bestbuy.com didn't have the screw cap anymore but they were still made in Japan Taiyo-Yuden and 48X.

What's the big deal if they are made in Japan Taiyo-Yuden or not?
I mean is this a good or bad thing?

supposedly according to sites like cdrinfo taiyos are the best in terms of data protection/accuracy/life or whatever.

btw the at&t ones come with a 20 min phone card.. if thats worth anything heh.

From what I understand, there are only a handful of CD-R manufacturers, among them TY of Japan, and Ritek of Taiwan. Taiyo-Yuden supposedly uses a higher-quality dye that is more stable against damage by oxidation and radiation (like UV). I'm not sure how much difference it makes, though. I've burned a good number of CDs, but the only one that has crapped out was a TY.

Should mention this week at Fry's, Maxell 50-pk, $14.99 - $10 Mfr. Rebate = $4.99. This is the brand I currently prefer.

Memorex come made in Japan, Taiwan, India and Mexico.... that pretty much makes it Taiyo Yuden TY , CMC Magnetics or some other crap brand that doesn't deserve a mention here. make sure you find made in JAPAN.

Most cd's made in Mexico are made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation...The parent company of Verbatim. They are quality cds too.

I have burnt a few AT&T CDs at 40x already, no problems so far.
The phone card was a nice surprise. 20 mins within the US is pretty cool, for emergencies and such.

Ugly CDs though, I might just use them for backups At least I can back up my MP3 collection in less than 1 hour.

Has anyone tried pricematching TDK's from Circuit City with the ones from CompUSA?

The deal on the sony cdrs at Staples is good until the 9th (the online rebate says 7th but the register printout says 9th).
I'd consider them better than Ritek's (which is what those AT&T cdrs are) but not as good as TY.
