Is it our right to do that?

Maybe some other nation should get it into their heads that the US is not a sufficiently free country, and invade and occupy us until we are at their requisite level of freedom. Should that happen, we would welcome them as "liberators," yes?

The ends do not automatically justify the means.

Imagine walking into an Army rehab center, finding the first guy with a missing limb who can read a list of McCain foreign policy talking points, then film him yapping into the camera for 2 minutes.

the fact that the war was a mistake to begin with shouldn't dictate where policy goes in the future regarding it now that we're already there.

Some of them are dead. I don't think that qualifies them as "better off".

They (our soldiers) died promoting freedom.

It is the job of our government to promote and protect freedom in the United States, not to try and force it on other countries. Bush has failed in both regards.



I understand that people need to feel like their huge sacrifices were not in vain, but the fact is neither the American people nor the Iraqi people asked for the United States to invade Iraq based on false pretenses. If you are unwilling to admit that invading Iraq was a mistake then you are willing to make the same mistake in the future in some other country.

I commend him for his service and sacrifice but I disagree. I value a human life more than I value a legacy.

He obeyed his orders and did his duty. Good for him. Sadly he lost a limb in the process, a price he will live with to the end of his days.

While I personally salute his service and sacrifice, the decision to join the army (or whatever branch he was in) was his. Once he made that decision he had no control of which war he partook in. His political views are garbage and irrelevant to his sacrifice.

What he doesn't realize is that had the war not taken place he would not have lost his limb. But losing a limb does not justify a war.

Good video, I agree that McCain really should have used this over some of his other campaign ads, and also having this guy speak with him would have been possibly a good idea.

The war was a mistake. The premise of the war was a mistake. There are dozens of worse off countries than Iraq that have even less freedom than Iraq. There are beneficial consequences to the war, sure. But to expect Americans to pick up the tab under false pretenses, yes, I would consider that a mistake.

That said, we're there now. A premature withdrawal that throws the entire region into total chaos would be an even larger mistake. Doing so would be a huge slap in the face of every soldier who has sacrificed their time, health, or life, for the freedom of the Iraqi people. Only then would our losses be in vein.

Don't let that happen.

Of all the things I hope for America, the greatest one is that we simply stop responding to emotional appeals like this. There's practically a religion out there with American sentiment, acting without conscience and without rational thought. This whole campaign has been this hidden religion's manifesto.

I love America, but the cause of war needs more than emotion.
