You are going to say "but they whooped on the #1 defense" and they did. Unfortunately that #1 defense played no good out of conference offenses and SEC offenses are horrid. I don't know how LSU ever scores.

It's true. I can just hear more of the "Well, championship teams find ways to win - that's why they're winners" lines but come on, Auburn and Nebraska just handed those games away. I'm not a tinfoil guy, but it's getting ridiculous. Hell, look at that Arkansas/Florida game.

I don't know that Nebraska served it up on a plate... They fought a hard game, but had a couple of unrelated fuck-ups on the last drive that can be attributed to the fact that they are a bunch of kids playing their biggest game of the season and are on the virge of winning. They were just too amped up... no control.

If anything, Nebraska totally exposed Texas as not being bullet-proof. I'm pumped for the championship game, but I think Bama will take this one.

Auburn didn't hand the game away. They made Bama work to get the points back to catch up and then later take the lead in the 4th quarter. There wasn't anything close to the back to back dumb plays of the kick out of bounds and horse collar tackle that set Texas up for the field goal.

I was talking about the last drive of the Aub/Ala game.

Auburn absolutely laid down and let Alabama score to take the lead.

There's a play early in the drive where Alabama's star WR catches a ball at the line of scrimmage on a 3rd and long (I think) and there isn't an Auburn player within 15 FEET of him.

I understand this, I played and was injured (not a horse collar tackle or anything) and couldn't play anymore. It's part of the game. It's just a dangerous way to bring someone down. Go for jersey or catch up

so redesign the pads so that when a hand grasps on the back of a pad, it snaps out, and then back in when the hand lets go... cant be difficult...

I'm trying to imagine what you said, but it doesn't make sense. If it pulls outward when they grab hold (but doesn't completely detach), it turns into a fucking handle to drag them to the ground.

I played as well, and you know the rule "never shirt tackle." Catching up isn't always an option for some of us slower defensive linemen.

I played d-end/outside linebacker (our scheme switched them up a lot) and tight end. I always heard to never shirt tackle, and never did, but I can't count the number of times I was dragged down by my jersey when someone missed the tackle but caught hold of some fabric.

you grab it, the selected section, probably about 8-10" of height, and some needed width... you grab it, as you go to pull backwards, the area will "break away" like a rim... and you will no longer be able to hold on due to the sudden change in needed grip, and direction... you are already pulling away/down on that tackle, so you pretty much pull your own hand off of the pad... i need to go submit a patent...

It would stop most of them, but in the off chance the person could hold on to the breakaway section you've just given them the ultimate handle to drag the person down with, and I have a feeling lawsuits would follow.

you can also wrap your hand fully around a rim... not so with a set of pads... its just in your palm...

just pretend to grab the top of your laptop, and pull down, watch what happens to your hands (not the best presentation, but it gives you an idea i guess)... it has to be seamless transition back into position once it breaks away however... otherwise theres an open area... it needs to snap back as soon as someone lets go...

Holy smokes, what a game. Both defenses are absolutely fantastic, and both offenses were truly pathetic. I don't understand why the 'horns didn't use Cody Johnson more, the bruising 250lbs RB instead of Newton. Newton is a great speed back, but against a physical D like nebraska, I think a direct pounding approach would have worked much better to soften things up and open it up for McCoy.

Either way, a win is a win, Hook'em Horns!
