Damn, lots of people dealing with lots of this stuff. :'(
Lost my stepdad just before X-mas in 2013 after his second bout with cancer (although I don't actually think it was the cancer that got him, had a poor diet for decades, had a stroke in August of that year which his doctor had been getting after him about improving his diet as he was at elevated risk of stroke due to the medicine he was on), then my grandmother (lots of health issues for decades) last year. My mother is following in my grandmother's footsteps. Poor diet, sits on her ass all the time (days when she's off work she pretty much just sleeps 70% of the time, then the rest is sitting at a computer and eating shitty food). Have been trying to get her to improve her diet and exercise as she's literally killing herself with it but she just refuses. She already has diabetes and high blood pressure and other problems due to her weight/diet but has the stupid attitude "I'd rather die than not eat food I enjoy" which she eats frozen dinners and tons of junk food so it's not like she's eating anything not worth giving up so I really don't understand that attitude. She had my oldest nephew stay with her for like a week during X-mas break and they ran up to McDonald's like 2-3 times a day the entire week. And then her and my sister feed the kids (youngest sister has 5 kids) shit food all the time, so they'll probably end up with health problems as well. That sister is hugely overweight and her husband always bitches about having problems (big surprise with their diet and he smokes). My oldest sister has health problems that she finally started to take seriously, turns 40 this year and already has osteoporosis, some kidney issues, probably will have diabetes if she doesn't keep a good diet; she also just had surgery early last year but I can't recall exactly what for.
I've been trying to get all of them to take their health seriously but it's frustrating as hell. Even let mine deteriorate quite a bit there as I was helping take care of my stepfather. My family also has bad habit of stressing the hell out of each other (which I generally calm them all down), so it's like a cocktail of bad habits sabotaging their health.
