Sucks you had to go through all that. Hope you guys recover soon.
I promised myself when I get my bike later this year that I will never carry a passenger on my bike, no matter how cool it'll look having a girl giving me the reach around, it's not worth the life. If I'm gonna crash and die, I want to be the only person affected, physically.
Fear of motorcycles? lol. Give me a crotch rocket and a Saturday at the track and you would see a ear to ear grin from the time I drive to the track in the morning till the trackday ends that day.
Hell drop me off at the local offroad trails with a bike and same story.
I've ridden motorcycles my whole life.
Riding on the street is friggin boring. Not only that it doesn't make it anymore enjoyable dodging the idiots that don't give a flip if you are shoveled up off the street because of their carelessness.

"A Trooper came to the Hospital later to give me a ticket for failure to maintain lane control. I didn't look at the ticket yet to see how much etc."
Some departments have MANDATORY ticketing on every accident. It's a bizarre policy.
Get better soon.
Especially since he wiped out on the shoulder. Wow, what greedy pigs. Traffic cops are just glorified tax collectors.

OK, you have no fear of motorcycles. You simply don't choose to accept the risks involved with street riding. It doesn't change the point I was making.
Get well soon!
I just had a similar thing happen to me 4 weeks ago.
I ride a scooter (50cc). Had someone not see me and run a stop sign, I swerved to avoid hitting them (and them hitting me) and then lost control and hit the asphalt at 35mph.
Luckily I had no broken bones or head trauma. Pretty bad road rash along both my arms, hands and right side of my nose. Sprained my right hand. My glasses broke and the lens took off most of my left eyebrow and also a chunk of my cheek below my eye. I got a couple of stitches in my ear where my earings ripped out, no stitches on my face since that tissue was actually missing and there was nothing to actually sew up.
It sucks but it will heal quicker than you think. Best wishes!
