This effect is heavily influenced by the fact that both Clinton and Obama reduced deficits when times were good and Obama increased them significantly when times were bad. Honestly, Biden dropped the ball straight into McCarthy’s lap. If he was serious about negotiating, he should’ve been pulling funds out of things that hurt red states 6-8 weeks ago. FEMA, INS/border, Interior/Agriculture, etc.

It should have been 'either the republicans stop holding the American economy hostage for their radical agenda, which is never done by either side, or we are going to do the 14th amendment' The 14th amendment idea has only just been floated as a tentative fix down the road.
