That is a good deal. Fed Ex Express shipping is only $6.09. $20 bucks delivered ain't bad at all for an FOP38. You can use the money you save to buy some ear plugs and sound dampening material for your case.

Why are they having a closeout ?

The FOP38's are very noisy...6800rpm...maybe too tall for slot m/b's...possible problem with it's "clip"....

Go over to Tech-Planet and read his comparison between "FOP32-1 vs FOP38"....

You may change your mind....

Hmmm...i am not sure if GlobalWin 38 is a good buy now...

Upon reading the new article at hardocp, they say that vantec cpu coolers are best buy.
and through the links they have at the end of article, you can find the Vantec coolers for ~$15.
Review of Socket A CPU Coolers by HardOCP

Read it and see if the FOP38 is worth buying

Does anyone know if the FOB-38 will fit onto a A7V? God I hope this thing isn't over kill for my T-bird 1gig. I've got a chrome orb right now. I feel your pain about the weapon fire Serg. =)

ArmyInfantry - I've got a FOP38 on my 1GHz TBird on an Asus A7V. The A7V has plenty of room for it The FOP38 keeps my processor much cooler than the Taisol CEK733 I had on before and allows me to get an additional 33MHz or so out of my chip. I would recommend the FOP32-1 if you're at all worried about noise though. The Delta Black Label fan is super loud. The clip isn't an issue at all if you pre-bend it a little before installing the HSF

armyinfantry- just installed the FOP38 on my friend's a7v mobo and it fits quite nicely...no problems with any other peripherals or dimm slots... i too, as Dantzig mentioned, pre-bent the clip...Athlon tbird specs rate that the maximum allowable force applied to the chip should not exceed ~24 lbs... i read somewhere that the FOP38 generated anywhere from ~17-21 lbs of force to clip...within tolerance, but it's too close for my liking..so i too bent the clip...

i've read of people 'killing' their tbirds by constant removal of this heatsink ...so just make sure you're happy with everything before you slap it onto the cpu...

hkssupra69:

I have an FOP38 insalled in my Asus p3v4x. It fits fine, though if I remember correctly it may be crowding the first dimm slot. It cools my 650 @ 910 Cmine much more effectively that the Gorb it replaced. I didn't realize how unstable my system was at 910 until I replaced the Orb.

But, as I noted in a post above, these puppies are LOUD.

However, this issue can be mitigated with the use of a good system monitor utility, such as ASUS PROBE, which ships with the p3v4x. Using that utility, you can set the minimum temp at which that big ass Delta fan should kick into high gear. Below the set temp, the HSF spins at very low revolutions and is very quiet (in fact, I can't even hear it over my PS and case fans) With my current settings, the fan never revs up under normal activities such as web surfing, disc burning, WP, etc. Obviously, under heavy load, particularly when gaming, the fan will rev up to gail force every so often. But, when you're fraggin away at your friends, who notices fans? In any event, the system remains rock stable the entire time.

I just got off the phone w/ a cool sales rep, they are sold out, he was like, what the hell is up did someone post this on irc or something? they sat on the shelves forever and i walked in this morning and every single one of them was sold, we couldnt sell em cause they are too loud, his boss said they will not be ordering anymore since they had such a problem getting rid of them, i told him they got hit by an anandtech thread. they do have the fop32-1's in stock (19$) though and they have the GW FLK38 for 12$ on closeout

anyways thanks for the post

BTW, this is a SLOT A fan, not a socket a, im fairly sure it will only work for Athlons, not Durons or TBirds...

when you say crowding the first dimm do you mean i can't put any memory in the first slot or its just gonna be a close fit? if its a close fit i think i'll replace my gorb also.
