As of late, I've begun shopping at this place, mainly because it's so cheap for the books I need for lit class.

If you can survive for a few days (read: a week+) without a book and/or borrowing from someone else, you can save a good chunk of change by ordering them from overseas, a la http://www.amazon.co.uk -- saved me almost $175 on my last semester's worth of books (Spring 04) ... it does take quite a bit of time to get here, though, and you gotta be careful with the currency exchange, since that can bite you (especially since the Euro/GBP seems to be going up against the USD ... but that's another thread).

I've personally never dealt with that website, so I can't compare prices, but I seriously recommend doing anything OTHER than buying them directly from the campus bookstore. Only reason I did that this year is all TA's get a 20% discount on bookstore purchases, which made it cheaper than I could get them online.

YMMV, of course.

addall, as akemyst suggests, includes amazon.co.uk in its search and comparison of prices...
And, IIRC, it includes dover too.

addall - your one stop comparison shopping for books

Well, i use this mainly for the classic literature pieces, stuff like "beowulf" and the like.

Most of them range from $1.50 to $2.50

If you don't figure it out in your first few years at college, you will when hindsite is 20/20...book in the USA are a total rape. The sad sad sad ^9999999 part of this is we do new books almost EVERY semester yet are behind the rest of the countries on education.

America used to be the Creme de la creme of the world, now we are becoming another England.

It's sad.

Wow, I didn't think of checking addall for my xmas shopping (for myself)

My wife wanted a list of personal things I wanted for xmas...
I gave her a list of half a dozen (or so) books.
I told her to just get used books though
(relatively popular mathematics books)

New averaged 30, used averaged under 5.
Since it's "our" money, I don't want to waste an extra $150 just to have new.. I'm just gonna read them then stick them on my shelf anyway.

I think it's cheaper at the local borders/barnes because you don't have to pay shipping. MSRP is usually $1.50-$3 anyways.

i think it's a good idea to revise the subject of this topic to say something along the lines of "books"

Or even within the message body itself. Quite the mysterious post.

To improve your future posts:

1. Use a meaningful title ... such as "Cheap Place to Buy Textbooks"
2. Change the title of a link from TEXT to something informative

Thanks for posting -- we need more people to post informative posts.
