That's more in lines of a pre-requisite than deception. If you want to use a better analogy, think about all the early models labeled with "TRUE HD" or "FULL HD" or "1080P HD" and then the panel had a native resolution of 1366x768.

I had to explain to a few friends/family members why their shiney new HDTV didn't do 1080p and why 1080i looked "fuzzier" than 720p.

The worst was for the folks who couldn't even receive an HD feed. Frustrating trying to explain that to people.

While I'm sure I'm coming off as an apologist with this - to me that error is on the consumer.

But in the end it just turns to bitterness towards a product/company and I don't get how some people make their decisions haha. I'm just the tech-guy in the family and magically I'm suppose to fix it.

Add to that, Martimus openly said he'd buy another AMD product to replace his laptop down the road - what if it has Bulldozer modules in it? Then would he change his position?

I'm guess we'll just have to disagree on the interpretation, which is perfectly fine, as we're being civil about it. I don't think we'll have to worry about BD, though, because that's going bye-bye soon.

Agreed.

Oh Bulldozer, you broke the love of my life's heart. :'(

But that failure brought her over to the Dark Side. Haha. However, her and I are both looking forward to Trinity for our next laptop.

I feel your pain. :|

When does it stop hurting? Haha.

I would. I like Llano, but Trinity is questionable to me.

This deception makes me less likely to purchase a IB, mostly because I am not likely to take the time to properly research that the chip actually does what it is supposed to. I don't have that peace of mind with that particular product anymore, due to the direct attempt to deceive. I have direct experience with Llano, and I know what it can do. For that reason I am more likely to go that route, and not go IB for a laptop purchase. If it weren't for this gaff on Intels part, I would probably have swayed more toward a IB chip, since the CPU portion is better and the IGP is supposed to be better than it was in SB.

A very fair plan of action. Being a gamer I can cite situations where pre-recorded/pre-rendered footage was attempted to be passed off as a real time demo. And I'm glad the guilty parties got caught. However, in the end for whatever the reason they did it the product they promoted was still something viable and something I wanted (haha.)

I'm not here to question your decisions or reasonings, I just wanted to point out your position was fair game in terms of a rebuttal.

The issue with the 6-series chipset and now even more recent the SB-E issue (forgot the exact name of it, has to do with virtualization and since that isn't in my interest I didn't memorize the name) are some red flags when I think about Intel and a spotty record, but like I said earlier - I'm just trying to pick the least of two evils, hopefully the one that benefits me the most (that and this unexplainable need to buy Intel/ATI (AMD-Graphics) haha.)

BTW, how offended were you that an AMD representative spent 18 months on multiple prominent computer enthusiast forums misrepresenting Bulldozer's IPC?
What's the bet you never made a word of criticism?
That to me is a good comparative. If he supports AMD after that fiasco, I find it ironic that he won't support Intel after this fiasco.

In the end, we're all getting screwed. Remind me when a company actually has my interest as their priority. I'm at a point where I'm just picking the least of two evils.
No, no, AMD is a very trustworthy company

Just a note, you should update your quote since you've quoted me saying something I didn't say.

I'm glad AMD is earning marks in regards to trust. Not sure how that affects me - at a consumer level. I guess I can say they are still exploiting me, but this time with a smile? Haha.

Not to dump on AMD or the authors of that study, but one of the metrics is: "Financial stability and strength." Okay...yeah, not sold on the integrity of the study. But then again, I'm just an ant in the grand scheme of things.

I'm a little surprised by this, IDC. Lying and anti-consumer practices are rampant in many industries. Remember when HD TV's first started gaining consumer-market penetration, and all the complaints from folks who bought their $3000 plasma TV's, only to find that picture quality sucked until they hooked up HD service, which had a marginal channel selection at that point? This was never pointed out by Sony, Philips, et al. Sony with rootkits, Intel and M$ found guilty of anti-trust/anti-consumer practices, yada yada yada.

Maybe I'm less bothered by this Intel demo fiasco because I expect it, from everybody.

I'm an "innocent till proven guilty" kind of guy. Not a "suspected of guilt till proven guilty" type. So yeah, I wasn't expecting this from Mooly or Intel TBH. If that makes me a chump then oh well.
