So you ordered the card, then tried to cancel the order while it was being shipped because AMD released a driver, then tried to cancel the cancellation?

So you've now canceled the cancellation and have gone full circle back to wanting the proverbial straw 6950 after all?

I returned a 6870 when it was first released after five hotfixes and still didn't fix the BFBC2 performance problems and they caused flickering in other games. 10.10/a/b/c/d/e all in 30 days each with it's own performance numbers, nothing consistent. Then in November more of the same 10.11/a/b/c/d/e. ATI is cheaper so people deal with it. Single card Eyefinity is the only benefit at this time. Also the annoying 100% fan at Start Up is ridiculous.

As for the OP post, 10.12a enables 6900 series compatibility but I wouldn't buy an ATI card anyway after what I went through. Customers don't need quick fixes if it's going to reduce performance in other games. Fix one thing to break another is bad business. ATI waits until a game is released or the community is upset about driver performance for a certain game to correct the problem. Release a single 10.12 driver and be done with it. Why confuse customers and release a second version of the same driver just to enable something that should be on the original version. I've owned two 5870s, two 5850s, two 5970s and a 6870 and there's always an issue going from one driver to another. So I'm not being a troll or a fanboy of Nvidia, just saying that ATI needs to get their act together.

I've been running Nvidia driver 260.99 since Nov. 5th and I didn't have to reinstall or change a driver because of performance or compatibility issues.

Every PC is different and filled with various programs that my conflict with video card drivers. I may have a great experience with Nvidia but someone else could have a bad one. It's pretty clear that more people have too many basic problems with ATI that can be easily corrected if ATI had a better QC process.

And you think Nvidia doesn't have their own recurring issues with games?

So if AMD released fewer drivers you'd be happier? Personally, I like the fact that they're releasing fixes as soon as they complete them. It's better than waiting a month or more if there's a particular game or app you want to run (and can't) due to a driver issue.

Single card Eyefinity is the only benefit at this time.
Better scaling with Crossfire than SLI, higher price/performance ratios, lower power consumption at both idle and while under load.

Also the annoying 100% fan at Start Up is ridiculous.
You're kidding, right? That's an issue worth mentioning?

I update my AMD cards only periodically and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Yes, the 6900 series is new and will probably have more issues and driver updates than older series of cards. But that's normal. Nvidia is going through their own teething stage as well with their GTX 500 series.

I've been running Nvidia driver 260.99 since Nov. 5th and I didn't have to reinstall or change a driver because of performance or compatibility issues.
And as I said above, I've been running the same AMD driver for months now as well. No issues to speak of.

Every PC is different and filled with various programs that my conflict with video card drivers. I may have a great experience with Nvidia but someone else could have a bad one. It's pretty clear that more people have too many basic problems with ATI that can be easily corrected if ATI had a better QC process.
Pretty clear to whom? From what I've seen, the ratio is pretty much 50-50 between dissatisfied Nvidia and AMD video card owners. Unfortunately, there are some people who keep believing the "ATi/AMD can't make good drivers" rhetoric from experiences people had years ago.

If AMD drivers were honestly that much worse than Nvidia's, don't you think it would have been pointed out during recent reviews?

I think they should just a release a driver when it's done, instead of forcing a turd out every month. That way you don't have to hotfix it 5 times.

Like I said before can't go wrong with either one.

Oh really? And if people are having problems they should just leave them out? Your posts make no sense man, it's quite irritating at times.

Yeah i'm with Creig on this one.

Never had issues since my first ATI card (HD 4850). Since then i'm not looking back.

It's only a matter of opinion, Red or Green, choose what suits you best.

I don't have any troubles switching sides, depends on what they have to offer at the time i'm ready to buy.

Exactly like the situation in Quebec city. For now my hockey team is the Montreal Canadiens but in a few years when we have our own hockey team back, i'm gonna be Quebec Nordiques all the way

I think it's funny how dramatic the OP is, in essence starting a thread that has no actual meaning, i feel sorry for you. I think you made the wrong decision and hope that you can live with the headaches it will cause buying a card that clearly wasn't what you needed. Next time post a thread before making a baseless decision so that other people can make your mind for you, since you clearly don't know what you are doing. Not only have you wasted our time by this wishy washy nonsense, but you have wasted the time of Tiger Direct, the shipping service, and created a more significant carbon footprint by changing your mind during delivery. Good thing the world isn't completely made of people like you to poorly decide its fate and in the end just making random guesses.

look people, we get it.
AMD releases at LEAST once a month and that means quicker access to latest features and fixes.
nVidia releases every 3 months +/- 2 months, giving them more time to do Q/A testing...

Some people swear by the AMD method, some by nvidia, its really a matter of personal taste as to which you prefer and this constant flame wars over it are not going anywhere nor are the productive or necessary.

The OP likes the nvidia method more. good for him, I hope he enjoys his choice. I personally don't have a preference as I find advantages in both. There is really no need to be so hostile about this issue

It's being rerouted. I called TigerDirect and they contacted UPS . It's on it's way back to them before I received it.

12/21/2010 9:29 A.M. THE SHIPPER HAS REQUESTED A DELIVERY INTERCEPT FOR THIS PACKAGE / RETURN TO SENDER PENDING

THIS was the proverbial straw:

NO WAY.

I give up, I'm going to pay the extra dough and go for a GTX-570 once TigerDirect credits my card back.

You posted this SAME thread on HardOCP...

As I posted somewhere back in this mess of a thread, I plan on getting the 6950 still. Just not quite as quickly as I had first planned. First it has to fly back to the East Coast and then it can fly back up to Alaska to be delivered. Finally.

And while this has been one of the most bonehead things I've ever done I gotta tell you, regarding this purchase, my carbon footprint isn't even on my list of concerns.

On a side note, anyone here into the sale at Steam?

I've never been a fan of the hotfixes either.

Despite the name making them seem necesary, I found I never needed to bother with a hotfix.

The 6950 is legit card, hope you stay settled with it and enjoy.

hardOCP is a different forum and there is no rule against cross posting in multiple forums.

So its OK to complain about the same thing on multiple forums, aka be a digital attention whore?
I'd say common sense needs to step in and delete this annoying thread.

I read his thread on HardOCP... and it seemed very trollish. This one doesn't seem any better and only adds to the hidden troll effect going on here.

Thread-crapping is not acceptable. If you don't like the thread then simply refrain from posting in it.

that is a bit inappropriate. they are two separate forums and many people do not look at both forums. people that belong to multiple forums have a right to post in each of them.

I am not saying his topic isn't a bit silly but posting on multiple forums in general should be of no concern or worry to you.
