Deciding between 2 motherboards....

Asus P867 Pro and Gigabyte GA-P67-Ud4

Three things that I'm wondering about are :

1) The Asus has a 2G Ethernet while the Gigabyte has a 1G Ethernet. Will this make a different when using wireless internet?

2) The Asus has a 16 for Power Phase while the Gigabyte has a 12. Will this make a difference? (I will not be overclocking)

3) Which board do you recommend. Asus looks to be ~185 while the Gigabyte looks to be ~172.

Thank you for the quick reply. No I don't have any applications that would use 2G Ethernet but wondering if this is something I should look into having to future-proof myself (However, that question doesn't matter anymore since you are correct I accidentally looked at the evo not the pro.

The other features are almost identical so the question becomes Asus or Gigabyte. I have had good experience with Asus it the past but am not a fan boy so I am willing to listen to other opinions. Basically is it worth 16$ more because it is an Asus?

Seems like both are overkill if you aren't going to overclock. If you aren't going to overclock you should get an H67 board so you can gave access to quick sync.

If you need 2 ethernet ports you would know.
12 phase vrm is probably overkill even in modest overclocking.
Both are good boards. As was posted go by threw other features.

I have never had this option on any of my rigs so I'm not very well informed on this matter. Is it possibly that you could use your computer kind of as a router and share a connection with another computer/system/server of some sort and have it independent of your primary internet/router connection?

iSCSI, perhaps? If its derived from an Intel part, then such boards should be capable of being equipped with an iSCSI boot ROM, perhaps with load balancing, which would improve throughput.

I am using DDR3-1600 and as far as I know H67 will only support up to DDR3-1333. Am I correct?

I'm pretty sure both only officially support DDR3-1333. It's the mobile based SB chips that support DDR3-1600 officially for some reason.

Go Gigabyte. They seem to support their boards very well and offer better support than asus does now.

Gigabyte also supports 1600mhz DDR3

If it's important to you, and you don't say that it is, the GA board doesn't have firewire/1394.

Jumping in here as I am also evaluating 1155 mobos. Assuming I DO want to OC using a 2500k or 2600k, does "12 vs 16 power phase" mean anything? (I dont even know what it means) It appears the SB chips generally sip power in any case so perhaps I shouldn't worry about anything to do with power in comparing different boards?

Firewire 1394 is not important to me. So it looks like i'm going with the Gigabyte GA-P67_UD4 unless someone gives me a good reason to change my mind.

There are various uses. The average user at home probably wouldn't use it, but an example would be connecting to multiple networks, or in some cases direct connect to network printers or servers.

If you really want to go with the P67 go for the P67A-UD4. You won't need the 16 Phase VRM because you don't overclock.

What kind of networking do you do generally? You probably won't need the 2G ethernet.

The best thing you can do is go for a H67 motherboard because they are cheaper and generally of the same features. You can't OC on them but that doesn't matter anyway.

Really depends on what you need. I like the Asus due to more SATA connections and the UEFI instead of the older bios the Gigabyte board uses.

One thing on which I have seen no data yet: fan control, Voltage as an alternate choice to PWM. My budget Gigabyte P55M-UD2 and my low-enthusiast P55A-UD3P both support a choice between PWM control and Voltage control in BIOS. My low-enthusiast As.s P7P55D-E Pro supports only PWM control of fans. Since the very best fans available to us consumers - the Gentle Typhoons and the San Aces - come only Voltage control, I will never buy another As.s board.

Of course, no data yet on the P67 Gigabyte boards, but if I needed a new mb it would not be an As.s.
