My current specs are listed below. I am currently considering upgrading my MOBO, CPU, RAM, and possibly Graphics card

ASUS P4T 533-C with 512 PC 1066 RDRAM to ASUS P4C 800 Deluxe 800 with 512 DDR PC 3200 400 MHz (dual pack 2:5:3)
3.06 533 FSB to 3.0C 800 FSB
80 Gig WD to 120 WD (7200 rpm 8mb)
9700 PRO to 9800 PRO

this was all prompted after posing the question of upgrading 9700 PRO to 9800 PRO before it loses anymore value when the new cards come out in the next couple of months.

Your thoughts please.

No pros or cons ehhhh. I know I'm only looking at about a 10% increase in performance with the CPU/MOBO/RAM combo

Complete waste of money.
Not worth it, not by a very very long shot.
Save the money, or spend it on something else, like a fancy cooling system for your pc, or a iPod. Some sort of Luxury item for your PC.

I have to agree with them on this one. Look at your system! DEAR GOD. That is still a kickass system. Don't waste the money.

Leave the CPU/Mobo/RAM as it is and just upgrade your Hard-Drive. The rest would just be a silly waste of money obviously.

Hes not exactely struggling for space is he?
Although, if you want the best performance possible, then buy something like a WD Raptor (10K RPM) and use it as the main drive for windows and programs, and the existing 80gb for games and data (such as music, documents, backups, ect).
But imo, even that would be a waste of money. Im willing to bet that at the moment you arnt using even 50% of that 80gb drive(unless you have loads and loads of games installed).

Ive got 80 GB and its nearly all used up, lol, on games and porn and various other things. Id like a RAID array as i hear that boost performance by up to 50%

Hehehe, an honest admission of what he uses his computer for...

RAID will not increase your performance much if at all. It just makes it less likely that you would lose data if a failure occurred. If you want to increase performance try SCSI or SATA (less so). Or try Viagra...hehehe.

Your system is pretty shweet now though. Another 512MG RAM or a bigger/better display would be a better way to spend your money.

RAID doesnt allways boost performance, asuming you mean stripping, then it`ll boost it a little, more on file access and writing.
I`m currently "struggling" with 60gb (40gb Maxtor, 20gb IBM), and i have about 15gb free, and i have alot on my system, 11 games, MS office, loads of music/video files ect;.
What helps me out is my monthly disk cleanup, where i delete any programs/files/DLed stuff that i no longer need/use, and/or write them to a CD.

I have a 19 NEC FE 950+
Well I decided to hold off on the CPU/MOBO/RAM combo for now since I might see a 10%performance boost at best, but then again I could lose some. I wait til the next gen CPU's come out and they reach 3.6 clock speeds and then I would see at least a 20% (noticeable) boost.

I did decide to go for the 9800 PRO.

If i were you, i`d said till the Athlon64s and Prescott are out, then buy CPU/MoBo/RAM.

Why?
You`ll gain about 5-10% more performance, for over £300 more. Why not just OC the 9700pro? You`ll get the same effect.

Ah you are one of these people who has to have the newest components in ur system. If you have that amount of money, then build another system - or buy a laptop or sommat/make a network.

give me some money, or at least your old system
I agree. I'll take the second option

just get a new HDD...
don't bother with the new vid card...
OR
use the $$ to take your GF on a little holiday holiday.. that way you can get some.. so you can erase all the porn and won't even need to upgrade the HDD

When I initially built the system I wanted a 9800 PRO but they wern't in wide release so I settled for the 9700 PRO, which has been is still is a rock solid card. I got it for only 279.00 ( got a hook up). I will get 210 for trade in value and get a 9800 PRO for 175 not bad in my opinion. When the 9900 PRO (360) hit and if they have significant performance improvements then my 9800 PRO will have better trade in value than the 9700 PRO would have had (100 vs 210). If the 9900 stinks then I'll keep the 9800 PRO.
