I am in the process of assembling my new machine, and so far it is looking good. It passes the POST, and I can get into BIOS. Inside BIOS I was just looking around and I noticed that it said the CPU Voltage is 1.82V. I had left it on default, but 1.82 looks abnormally high. Does anyone know what the voltage should be?

I have an Athlon Tbird 1.2 AXIA "9" by the way.

Also, when I boot it seems to be detecting that my hard drive and DVD drive are ATA/33. I thought these were supposed to be ATA/100. I am just using the cables given to me with the 8k7a retail package. I have my hard drive connected to the first IDE channel, and my DVD Drive connected to my second IDE channel. What is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting,

I just bought 2 of these 8k7a+ boards to use with 1.333g Athlons. One held voltage at 1.79 (CPU was stable at 1.4g) and the other at 1.84. The 1.84 mB would not remain stable at any speed above 1.2g! (10 * 120 mhz) I swapped CPU's and saw the 1.79 voltage MB change to 1.81 with the other CPU and the 1.84 MB lower to 1.82. The 1.82 MB still was not stable above 1.2g with the CPU that was stable at 1.4g using the other MB. So my conclusion was a bad MB and I'm getting it replaced.

Interestingly enough, I'm having a hard time keeping the 1.79 (now 1.81) MB stable at 1.333G with the other CPU now...

Anyone Ideas here? Jumpers are all EPOX defaults, (Crucial) DDR ram on Auto/Normal.

What are the voltage ratings for these cpu's anyway...???

I have no idea. But my 1.2 runs on 1.79v for more than a month now. Not a single glitch. I suppose vCore varies from chip to chip.

As for ATA100...you'll have to be using ATA100 cables. The retail board came with 3 cables, one's ATA100, with 80 thin wires inside. Another ATA33 cable, with 40 thicker wires. And a floppy cable. Make sure you have a harddrive that supports ATA100, and also using the ATA100 cable linking it with IDE slots. If you miss either one of the requirement then it's ATA33 standard.

O, The voltage s/b 1.75 per AMD tech specs:

Parameter Description Min Nominal Max Notes
VCC_CORE Processor core supply 650-1400 MHz 1.65 V 1.75 V 1.85 V 1
VCC_CORE SLEEP Processor core supply in Sleep state 1.2 V 1.3 V 1.4 V 2
T DIE Temperature of processor die 95º C 3
Notes:
1. For normal operating conditions (nominal VCC_CORE is 1.75 V)
2. Sleep Voltage can be used for the S1 sleep state.
For more information see the AMD Athlon? and AMD Duron? Processors BIOS, Software, and Debug Developers Guide, order#
21656.
3. Die temperature is 90º C for frequencies 1000 MHz

Does the motherboard jumper have to be set for 133/266 from its default 100/200? I thought setting the Bios Freq/voltage setting to 133 would override that jumper. (Some people are stating this is neccessary for correct PCI clocking)

There is also a 1607 (beta?) bios link within the forums here...

BTW: For the Power supply - I'm using Enermax 365 v/PE's. The PSU's voltages all look ok per pc-health except for its +12V reading which is coming through at 12.72 & 12.79 which I think is a bit high (However, I assume this is only going to my HD's and CD-Rom drives) Could this be related?
