Defect in AMD FX-53 CPU?

I just read an ad on ebay buy a person that is selling 2 GB OCZ PC3700 Gold Edition Rev. 3 Dual Channel memory sticks. He says he's selling the memory because a defect in the FX-53 chip will not allow him to run memory at speeds higher than 166. I'll paste the exact wording below:

"These are two brand new packages of OCZ pc 3700 (512MB x 2) Dual Channel Gold Edition Rev 3 unbuffered regular memory that I could not use because my AMD FX-53 chip (as well as all of the ones made due to a defect in the chips) will not run any memory at high speeds (over 166) when dual channel in activated. I am very upset that I needed to get other slower memory because these are great sticks (my first choice), but I cannot use them."

Is this true? I'm planning to install a FX-53 chip in my new computer and if this is a problem, I'd like to know.

Thanks.

It only runs 166? what a joke, he probably just has no idea what to do with the hardware or how to configure it.

edit: on the new DFI AMD64 beta mobo the highest speeds to date are being recorded for DDR, 550+ mhz. i think even 600mhz

It's all bvllsh!t. athlon fx's are excellent cpu's and can run very high speed memories.

I know some of the older socket 754 mobos couldn't use more than two dimms @ DDR400, & if you added another, they'd go down to 333 or sumthin', but i do not believe that's the case with the 939s...even that was the case, it would be due to the mobo not the CPU.

What a dumbass. I wonder if he has a MSI mobo though.

Seriously, that's one of the best rams to run in A64's. Go to Xtremesystems...plenty of fellas running them at 250MHz 2-3-2 with FX-53.

Actually I am using them in my FX-53 system and work perfectly with dual channel.

Carlosd,

Out of curiousity, how do you have your drives configured? RAID 0+1?

I have the Raptor and a Seagate Barracuda 120 GB SATA. I'm trying to decide if I should buy another Raptor and how I should configure the drives.

Tell him that he is right and the FX53 chips do have that defect. Then offer to buy that crappy FX53 off him for $200.

Im not even sure you could get them in the slot, dont registered DIMMS have a little different orientation of that little positioning slot?

If it's 4x512 total, then the RAM will run at 166. he technically can overclock it to run at 200 though.
