Question Defective mouse

Can something as mundane as a defective mouse cause computer freezes / lockups / program and system crashes ?

Have a system that was having lockup problems and I found that the mouse was defective (i.e. would not perform the desired functions
on SOME occasions like would not open menus when doing right click). Also, sometimes left click would not initial required actions.

Ran diagnostics on memory and hard drive and both tested OK.

Yes, I changed the mouse before I installed (did have MS$ on it) Linux Mint 19 on the system and all seems well but will have to give the system back to the owner to see if it was a system problem or a user problem. Thanks.

Generally it would be the mouse drivers, not the mouse itself to cause problems.

If it now works well with Linux Mint then it would certainly be a driver issue and not the physical mouse.
