I've played 2 shooting mmos so far, and while never did they both may as well have had casting bars.

If I am understanding it right, it's going to be a very long grind. The max EGO right now is 5000. I've played 5hrs, my EGO is 134.

If the game can stay interesting long enough to reach 5000 I will be very impressed lol

EGO is at 220 now. Starting to have concerns on longevity of this game. While I'm still having fun rolling along completing side-missions and the main mission I'm afraid I'm not far off from "beating" it. That is, to the point where there are no new missions/quests to complete. I have read that some people have completed the main story within 10-12 hours.

When initially viewing the map it seemed very large with many undiscovered areas, but in fact those areas do not actually exist yet. So I've already been everywhere, or at least driven by... In terms of MMO worlds this one turns out to be very small.

So it's looking like the only thing that will soon be left to do is compete against other players scores on single-player type quests, or play PvP. Which is somewhat disappointing to me as I am more a fan of PvE.

But in the end I see myself getting more playtime out of this game than some other $60 games I've purchased.

Is all the PVP instanced?

Is it something similar to Planetside 2?

No. I haven't played any of the PVP yet, but I think the biggest PVP battles are 64v64 and I have no idea of the map size.

It is more like a multiplayer Borderlands. The primary experience is a theme park PVE experience.

After running through many missions by just doing objectives and not sticking around for the fight it occured to me that I am doing this wrong.

Once I started approaching objectives by first engaging the npcs the game became fun. The fighting is the fun part.

ROFLROFL...

i hate people like you!
im stuck cornered in a middle of a gun fight.. some guy just runs along... cuz im holding all the agro.. and poof... completes it... then just runs.... doesnt bother helping me get out of the corner...

its a quick wham bam thank you ma'am sort of deal..

Take a Shooter, MMO, RPG. Than water these down along with weak story and graphics than you get Defiance

i dont think they can go too deep into the story cuz the actions of the game is somehow suposed to reflect progress in the TV SHOW and vice versa.
Basically events which we complete in the dynamic world of the game will impact the show.
Events which happen in the show will reflect the world of the game.

By opening the entire story plot in the game before the show even broadcasted, it would kill the TV SHOW b4 it even began.

You guys incase u didnt know.
Defiance is a joint project with a game publisher and TV Show.
Its a test to take MMO to the next lvl by having it control events in a TV SHOW and vice versa.
The story is gonna be lacking.. because the TV SHOW hasnt even launched yet..
It launches April 15th.

So the story will be watered down on what we can do now.
But the makers are Trion.
If you ever played Rift, you know Trion is VERY GOOD with updates.
So u can expect good updates with the game as the TV Show progresses.

Why the launched the game 2 weeks b4 the TV Show i have no clue...
i guess they wanted to collect data on the dynamic events in the game to write future script on the show.

Yup, a constant flow of updates introducing a new world event with different and inane grind tasks to get a completely different set of alternative currency to use to get the next set of stat-inflated gizmos necessary for the next raid instance.

I bought this earlier today and put in about 3 hours after work. I gotta say, it's more fun than it is good. A lot of missions, side and otherwise, are pretty much the same thing, rescue guys, get meds, rescue more guys, rinse repeat. The combat feels solid tho, and the Arkfall battles are a lot of fun with a bunch of other people.

Only paid $33 for it on Greenmangaming, and it's definitely been worth that to me.

I ended up getting the game for PS3, but I played beta on my laptop (before it died). I enjoyed it a bit more for the computer but it's still not bad on the console

So what are the thoughts of how this game is now, was thinking of picking it up. Is the game as bad as the show?

I got it this weekend. I've only played 2 hours with a friend and it gave me a good feeling.

I liked it quite a bit and after wow (like 5years ago) i was decided to never play a mmo again, but the "non-mmo" mechanics got me interested, and this friend gave me a copy so i was like what the hell, im gonna try it.

And i've started watching the show too, only 2 episodes so far, i like it...its not OMG but i like the idea of watch defiance and play defiance, at my own pace, as it doesnt have a monthly subscription i dont feel like i MUST play this.

I heard it lacks content but im sure it will come eventually.

And about what REDINIT said, im not so sure if the show is more important than the game or the game is more important than the show. Im pretty sure one can live without the other, but sure its more fun to have both and see similar things in one and the other

i picked it up a couple weeks ago when it was half off at GMG. ive been enjoying it. Ive never played a real MMO before so i had no preconceived notions of what it should or shouldnt be. To me, its a shooter in an open world where you can solo or team up with others to complete missions. ive not tried any pvp yet. im still rolling through the main story missions. feels like a mix of borderlands2 and planetside2, both of which ive played and enjoyed many hours of.

i got bored of it quickly.

the way they make u swap guns everytime is a game killer for me.

If one likes a gun he should be able to use and lvl up from it.
Not have to replace it when its lvl'd or you wont level.

but nobody in any mmo choses to use a weapon that is not as good as another one you have in your inventory... unless is just to show off

Problem is that more often then not the gun you have max leveled up IS your best gun in your inventory, which is why it got max in the first place before the others.. Sometimes not a problem, but being forced to switch guns to continue progress is really stupid.

It's also silly that you can replace the gun with the exact same model and level up from it again.

oh I got this here new gun, exactly the same as the one before, but since it's new I can learn from it!! derp

exactly which lead me looking for the multi copies of the same gun.
then gimping my inventory space... then... sigh..

i took it off the active list i have.

the TV show isnt even that interesting to me either.
The CG in it is horrible... it made me almost want to cry because i thought i was watching a sci fi tv show from earily 2000.

I think the frostbyte / crytek engine could render the CG better then what they are using,
Seriously are we at the age where a PC game can out class CG from TV shows?

I mentioned the cgi in the tv thread. The space stuff is good, the ground stuff is fairly mediocre.
