Defragmentation percentage - Important?

This has been on my mind for a while now. I switched from the built-in Vista Defragger on both of my machines to Defraggler. My percentage on both machines seems to stay at about 8-15 and after defragging, my percentage will do down about 1%. This isn't Defraggler going slowly either, AusLogics is just as slow. Being OCD, I had to get that number to 0, so I'll spend days not installing, moving, copying, downloading, or doing anything with files and just defrag in my spare time. Lately, I've been wondering if it matters if my percentage is around 5% and if it's worth bothering trying to keep the percentage at 0. If it is worth it to keep going to 0, is there a defragmenter that will keep defragging until there's 0 percent fragmentation?

While we're on this, is there a defragment freeware that's better than the default window's defrag?

Do you have any idea what that percentage actually means? Seems to me it's just presented in order to scare you into thinking you need to defrag more often so that their software seems more useful.

Vista and Win7 handle that for you, just let them do their thing. You've wasted more time looking at that number than you'll ever save with the performance differences from defragging.

Are you referring to the scheduled defragmentation or are you saying that Windows Vista/7 handles files in a similar way to Linux? If the latter, can you show me a link saying so?
