Del Taco isn't that cheap, their burgers actually cost more than any other fast food burger place around here. The double del's tiny and cost over 3 bucks. The chicken burrito I get's over 3 bucks, and it's not that big. DT isn't a place I'd call inexpensive at all. They have inexpensive items, but the majority of their menu isn't what I'd consider "value" Across the board it tastes better, and they have a MUCH better selection than Chopotle. Their burgers are actually very good, and their fries are pretty tasty. I'll take DT 10/10 over overrated Chipotle. DT also has better hot sauce

For the value and food you get Del Taco is up there. In the student saver booklets they sometimes have buy one get one double cheeseburgers that are almost like Double doubles from In-N-Out as well as 2 half pound macho burritos for less than 5$.

I've been to a couple of Del Tacos and while I think their food sucks, it's still tons better than Chipotle.

At least DT has flavor...it might give you the shits...but it tastes fairly good doing it.

Explain to me why you think Chipotle has "better quality of food" what facts do you have to back this up? I know tons of people who eat there, most say exactly what you say. Yet not a single one can give me any proof they're not just talking out of their ass. And the lack of flavor negates any slight quality advantage they have. But since it's not higher quality and has no taste to it, I'm going to have to say Chipotle has nothing over any Mexican place, nothing...

I get mine with (choice of meat), fajitas, half rice, pinto beans, extra pico de gallo, medium, extra sour cream, cheese, no lettuce.
So friggen flavorful, I find it a lot more flavorful than the vast majority of authentic mexican burritos that I try all over socal.

The chipotle flavored tobasco is sooo good with it too.

You can't compare Del Taco to Chipotle, that's like comparing McDonald's to In n Out; they're on different tiers.

Chipotle is comparable to Qdoba or Freebirds. Personally, I think Chipotle is slightly better than Qdoba and a decent bit better than Freebirds.

Del Taco is comparable to Taco Bell or Taco Johns. Personally, I think Del Taco is infinitely better than Taco Bell.

Some pointers for Del Taco:
Don't waste your time getting the burgers or "American" food, that's like going to Carl's Jr and ordering the Green Burrito shit
Their fries are pretty decent, better than a lot of fast food burger joints
The chili cheese fries are usually pretty damn good though occasionally I get some that suck hardcore for whatever reason
If you're ordering generic tacos y burritos expect cost and quality on par with Taco Bell
Getting into the more "exotic" menu items at Del Taco gets you the good stuff
Chicken soft tacos are really good and a screaming deal, though the chicken seasoning makes everyone I know have some really raunchy burps
The Del Carbon tacos are actually a decent facsimile of a true Mexican street taco. They're a bit pricey but maybe my favorite thing on the menu
I would (and have) ordered fish and shrimp tacos from Del Taco, something I would NEVER do at Taco Bell. Again, they're pricey but I was not disappointed
The quesadillas at Del Taco are literally 10000000000000x's better than Taco Bell. You can get cheddar or spicy jack varieties and they're actually made (i.e., put together) there. Taco Bell quesadillas are shipped frozen and reheated whole, often meaning that they're not properly warmed through.

In fact, it's been said that Taco Bell really took off in this country when the company realized that it doesn't compete against restaurants (which implies cooking food) but instead competes against cafeterias (which only reheat already prepared food). I would agree with this wholeheartedly and state that while Del Taco is certainly not haute cuisine it is light years better than crud like Taco Bell.

There's definitely some quality stratification going on.

No one should have to learn to make their food flavorful. If you have to do that then the food is already lacking.

sactoking - the pedestal that some people put Chipotle on is unbelievably unrealistic. But you're right they shouldn't be compared because DT is better on every level. Chipotle did wonders with marketing, which isn't saying much because the average American will proclaim that MCD's Angus burgers are top notch.

Chipotle is a place that literally has food sitting in trays like a school cafeteria, an order from DT will almost always be more freshy prepared. Just because some hack at Chipotle prepares a persons burrito directly in front of them doesn't make it fresh. The meat at Chipotle sucks, if I gotta have a billion things added to give the Burrito flavor, it's fail.

well the beans, rice, veggies... those are all the same as any other place -- from 5 star dining to mcds... lettuce will be lettuce

the difference is the meat. you do seem 'em cooking their meat right? real chicken breast... real steaks...

Their meat sucks. I had their barbacoa which is labeled as spicy and it was dry and literally had zero spice in it. Plus all the meat was in the bottom of the burrito and there was almost none in it.

You ask for whatever ingredients you want and if it sucks then it sucks. You shouldn't have to ask for a certain set of ingredients to make something taste good.

cant say anything about their barbacoa, but i regularly have their steak and chicken. both are top notch. also note, at the chiptoles ive been to (3 in WA and CA), they have the grills out in the open. you can see 'em grill the meat right there. you may not like the taste, but cant say they're on the same level of quality as McDs.

otherwise... your other complaints are non-issues. they make the burrito right in front of you, if you have issue with how they wrap it, or want more meat, cheese etc, just ask.

Nothing better than woofing down some Del taco fries mixed with Del Scorcho sauce & catsup!

Toss in a 6-pack of hard tacos for $3 and you have yourself the best drunk meal $5 can buy.
