well the beans, rice, veggies... those are all the same as any other place -- from 5 star dining to mcds... lettuce will be lettuce

the difference is the meat. you do seem 'em cooking their meat right? real chicken breast... real steaks...

The last few times I went no I didn't see them cooking shit. I ordered a Burrito, which was prepared the same way Subway makes my Sandwiches. They pulled shit out of bins and assembled my Burrito in about 30 seconds. Subway's motto is "eat FRESH!" but I'm almost 100% sure unless I get there right as they're putting out new bins of meat and veggies, I could well be eating a sandwich with shit that's been sitting out for hours.

The difference isn't the meat, I'd bet you $100 if you blind folded 100 people and gave them chicken from Chipotle & DT and asked which is better, Chipotle wouldn't come out ahead. The meat isn't higher quality, people who eat there get the placebo effect because their mind's telling them it has to be better food since a guy's making it 2 feet in front of them. I can order my Chicken Burrito plain from DT and it still tastes good. Chipotle you have to add everything they got to give it any real flavor, and by that point why even bother having Chicken in it?

cant say anything about their barbacoa, but i regularly have their steak and chicken. both are top notch. also note, at the chiptoles ive been to (3 in WA and CA), they have the grills out in the open. you can see 'em grill the meat right there. you may not like the taste, but cant say they're on the same level of quality as McDs.

otherwise... your other complaints are non-issues. they make the burrito right in front of you, if you have issue with how they wrap it, or want more meat, cheese etc, just ask.

If I'm paying them for their burritos, I shouldn't have to tell them how to make it. If I go to a taco truck, I shouldn't have to tell or show them how to make a good burrito. I tell them the ingredients I want and it should taste great the way they make it whatever I ask for since it's their ingredients.

that's the entire point of why Chipotle is awesome, way to fail

Huh??? Whatever I ask them to put in it should taste good. I shouldn't need a certain set of ingredients that everyone has to follow for it to taste good. Anything I ask to go in it should taste good. I guess I must be crazy though because I can go somewhere else and tell them what I want in my burritos and it tastes good. I guess I just need to follow the strict set of Chipotle rules of what to put in a burrito.

Del Taco lost me as a customer, they try and do too much up selling for me.

Explain to me why you think Chipotle has "better quality of food" what facts do you have to back this up? I know tons of people who eat there, most say exactly what you say. Yet not a single one can give me any proof they're not just talking out of their ass. And the lack of flavor negates any slight quality advantage they have. But since it's not higher quality and has no taste to it, I'm going to have to say Chipotle has nothing over any Mexican place, nothing...

Because all of the ones I've been to I can see the dude chopping up the the ingredients right behind the counter.

I can't speak as to why people think there's no flavor, maybe they're scared of salsa or anything that contains flavor and dont put those ingredients in and expect there magically to be a flavor explosion.

Chipotle can't hold a candle compared to a true taqueria, or mexican restaurant, no debate there. It may be that people who think Dell Taco and Taco Bell have more "flavor" are looking for MSG, sodium and fat, not authentic spices and fresh ingredients. To each there own.

How does that make them better though? The quality of food should be judged by where it came from, not because some dude cuts it up in front of you. And that doesn't even mean it's fresher, if he's cutting up an onion that's 2 days old, it's not fresh. The whole cutting shit up in front of the customer is their gimmick, which works very well for them.

looks like KFC of tacos...based on website design, lol.

:hmm:

I'd love to give it a a shot, but I haven't seen any of them around. it would take a lot to pass chipotle, though.

deep fried shrimp, as I see from that ad, does not do them any favors. (it puts them in a different class, basically)

If ya'll are in OC try a place in Costa Mesa called Taco Mesa. Its really good americanized mexican food, tons of taste, not a ton of grease, freshly made.

In the city I group up in we had one Del Taco. Nothing in the area was open past midnight, so thats where everyone ended up after parties were crashed, etc. Nothing better than being stoned out of my mind and having a couple of their breakfast burritos.

As for Chipotle vs Del Taco....lol

I don't understand the "Chipotle burritos don't have any flavor" crowd. Are you kidding me? Order a burrito with extra chicken, black beans, easy on rice, extra cheese, other toppings of your choice, and their hottest sauce. If that isn't flavorful, then you have some real fucked up taste buds.

Yeah I loved that place. One of the very few places that gives me heartburn though.

you can actually trace where Chipotle gets their food--from farm to your plate. They are universally "praised" by the general food industry as a model for quality in the fast food industry. sounds crazy, maybe. but it's true. McD's abandoned them, I guess, b/c they had no model that could ever introduce a sub-dollar menu.

they are unique. I know it must seem odd to you, because maybe you want it to be odd, and (I agree) it's easy to be cynical, but they are the real deal.

A mom and pop place does it on the food level JUST AS WELL, IF NOT BETTER--that is obvious--but Chipotle does it as a franchise institution.

this is a different ballgame.

You ask for whatever ingredients you want and if it sucks then it sucks. You shouldn't have to ask for a certain set of ingredients to make something taste good.

if you can't put together a tasty combo from what they have available, then you just suck.

i had chipotle for lunch. had a bogo coupon. was excellent.

yeah, i don't understand why people are trying to compare the two. they service two different segments of the market.

del taco is better compared against taco bell, and chipotle is better compared against a local taqueria or qdoba or whatever. i prefer my local taqueria for a lot of items, but sometimes chipotle is good too.

What's not to understand? Their meat has almost no flavor, you can order a Chicken Burrito with nothing but Chicken in it from El Polo Loco and it'll taste pretty good. Try the same from Chipotle, you probably wouldn't want to eat it. Of course cheese and hot sauce are going to have flavor, but what about the meat? Shit if you put cheese and hot sauce on card board and it would probably make the card board edible, that doesn't mean I'd want to eat it though. If Chipotle charged about 2.50 for a burrito they'd be a pretty decent spot to eat. But for the price it's a total rip off.

The only fast food mexican I have had was Baja Fresh, Chipolte, Taco Del Mar, Taco Time & Taco Bell.

Love Baja Fresh, Chipolte and Taco Del Mar. ^_^

Not a fan of the Del Taco here, pretty subpar. I do like Taco Del Mar or Muchas Gracias though.

Ok, now I know for a fact you have fucked up taste buds.

El Polo Loco has by far the most bland chicken I have ever tasted. The skin is good, but once you get past that (first bite) it's pretty underwhelming. I would rather eat at El Polo Loco than Taco Bell or Del though.
