Hmm, did you ever stop to think that maybe the reason your computer was messed up wasn't because of Windows or MS, but because you're using illegal versions of software? It'd be pretty stupid to blame MS for problems you're having with something you've stollen from them.

You call him a fool for blatantly accusing people of piracy when you just admit you pirtaed it. As well, how do you know he accuses "people", when all he is doing is accusing you, within given knowledge? He knows companies don't just "give" away a corprate version, especially if it's a big company who actually uses the corporate liscense.

You also call him a hypocrite.. can you tell me why? To me it seems your the hypocrite.

Oh ya.. and also, wasen't the corprate lisense released on October 1st, when the OEM copies started shipping? Or have they come out at all yet? You stated 2 months that you had the corprate edition, so it's obvious you pirated it, unless i'm getting my dates mixed up.

How about calling these guys..

http://www.spa.org/piracy/

and giving them your email address (awshit@midsouth.rr.com), since you were stupid enough to use your ROADRUNNER email on your profile here , it wont be hard for them to get your memphis home address/phone number etc from roadrunner...and order a search of your house... I woud start melting those CD's if I were you..

or just call the hotline and leave an annoymous tip.. 1-800-388-7478... or use their anonymous tip web form and give them your email address, and links to these statements... should be enough for a quick sopenia to find out how much you have stolen..

This is silly. Software companies can't 'order a search' of your house. Ever heard of the 4th amendment?

it's called violation of copyright laws, and i'm pretty sure they can order a search of your house if you blatantly admit stealing or "downloading" their software.

Man.. XP sucks. I dropped my computer down the stairs and it kept getting BSODs when I booted up. it sucks!

I'm sorry, but I get amused when people give themselves a problem then blame it on the OS. I'm not a big microsoft fan but damn, I'd at least take the blame if I infected my system with a virus.

They can not search his house because of a "confession" on the Internet. It is not enough evidence to establish probable cause and any search of his house would be unconstitutional. It can not even be proven that it was actually him who made the "confession" in this discussion board.

Just imagine the consequences if this "confession" actually were enough to order a search. Johnny visits his best friend Billy's house. Johnny borrows the family computer and browse Anandtech Forums. Johnny is automaticly logged in on Billy's Anandtech Forums account and posts something about downloading pirated software. Next day, the law enforcement is searching Billy's house and arrests him for alleged piracy. Scary scenario.

The bottomline is that (anonymous) confessions on Internet forums is not probable cause.

Certain government agencies no longer require a warrant to search a premise....case in point for terroism..before you had to be on a list and be notified that you were a suspect in such and such case...now you can have your computer tapped. telephone tapped..you name it..it can be done...to me this can be considered searching a home,..as most of us have our lives directly on our pc's...

Well, I'm not an immature punk although i may have sounded like one..

This original post was to just state how I liked XP.. I got a little ticked when someone decided to lecture me.. 90% of the people here AT LEAST have a few mp3's on there HD that are questionable.. I gurantee it.. I didnt make this post to start a flame war just to state my experience with XP..

And you can send in all the crap you want on me to whatever piracy agency.. I dont have XP installed any more cuz it had a few glitches i didnt like(overall it was good though) and copyright law stipulates it has to be installed. Plus that rr email address is a subaccount that has already been deleted weeks ago..

I feel like the kettle that got called black by the pot.. lol

and yes, it was probably me that fudged the OS.. thats not why i went back to 2k though(and my windows 2k is a legit backup copy-you PROVE otherwise lol.. my orginal got "melted" and i lost the receipt haha).. i went back to 2k cuz i had just a few minor issues i never could get worked out.. when the first service pack comes out i may go back to XP.. Hell I may even buy a legit copy so I can come back here and NON HYPOCRITICALLY FLAME the HUGE amount of Anandtechers that did the SAME thing i did.. laff. you people amuse me

I, as a member of the majority of the Anandtechers you so lovingly talk down to, believe I speak for the majority when I say I could care less what you think.

P.S. Keep your lame and stupid inflammatory comments to yourself.. wait, i hear something.. Is that your mommy calling you? No, she could care even less.
