Hello!
I just wanted to know what you think about idea of system for automatic sale and delivery of food and drinks in movie theater.
Robotic container with food is very tiny and you have enough place for feet.
Container is closed, it opens only near your seaat. It's movement does not create noise.
Brightness of the screen is low and not distracting.
There is comfortable payment method.
That's not rails on the image, its a magnetic tape, a thing unnoticeable in practice

It's only available for the part of the rows in theater, for interested people.

Any opinions?

I think it would be distracting. All trips to the concession stand should be done prior to the movie starting.

I've always had the idea that fried okra would make a great movie going snack. If the theatres offered it and made it halfway decent (tall order I know) I would much rather have a bag of fried okra to snack on than buttery popcorn.

I could see people using that... Not sure if the economics would support that complex a system for snack delivery, though.

To be honest, though - I almost never go to the Movies. When I do {read: when I can't easily get out of my family making me go} there's a dinner theater with a liquor license and a very good chef who does high level bar food for the place. Or, more accurately: There is a good Pub who own the attached theater next door. If I remember right, the last time I went I had a burger in a bourbon reduction/glaze, spicy double thick fries, and washed it all down with a couple Dogfish IPAs. It's not the cheapest night - $20 each for the movie, plus the meal - but if you're going to do something.

You got my attention. How is fried okra prepared? Is it crisp? I've fried it myself with curry powder, but it was just like any other fried vegetable.

There is a local company here that has a similar service for college SEC sporting events. You place your concession order using a phone app. & they (person) delivers your order to your seat.

I don't see how people would avoid tripping over the robot, and I'm skeptical that it would be completely silent (at least based on my previous experiences with stuff like robotic arms).

there are dine-in theaters, though, where they bring you popcorn, drinks, or whatever to your seat. they seem to work well enough, just requires tiered seating so that the servers aren't blocking anyone's view.

It's not that stupid IMO, but I can definitely see some idiot tripping over it. Now if you can invent a robot that automatically ejects anyone who's talking or texting, I'm 100% on board.

Spring loaded knives in the seat backs. It would only take a few "examples" for other people to get the point(haha).

That's going to piss off all the people sitting on the aisles seats as they would have to move their feet out of the way every time someone orders something.

Does it come with free ipads?

Um is it just me or do I see a massive timewarp as I just posted this 5 minutes ago and it appears I am the first poster now?

stupid, reasons:
a) extra space must be allocated within isles to allow for these robots to deliver food items? Are existing theaters going to remodel? How much knee-space are customers going to sacrifice in existing lay-outs for this thing.

b) How noisy is the shuffling of these screens and food delivery going to be going up and down isles the whole movie? Whats to keep some selfish dumb-ass jiggaboos from reaching their hand in my popcorn while its on its way to me. Now you need to have a secure and safe way to deliver this to me as well.

c) this touch-screen is going to be backlit, how annoying will that screen moving around the theater for people behind it trying to concentrate on the movie? Seeing this lit, even a dimply lit LED screen on a RAIL moving back and forth across isles will be way to distracting and annoying

theres other reasons but let me stop there for now - stupid idea

I'd be more interested in a way to pee without having to get up and miss part of the movie.

Star Trek gave us two answers, pick one:

- replicators in the armrests

- point-to-point transporter technology (which also works for emptying your bladder)
