Want to upgrade to gig and notice the 8 port gig switch is "only" $249.

Still kinda pricy compared to the linksys $160 8 port gig switch but the wap makes it almost competitve but less plasticy

anyone have any experience with the gig switch?

Ok, i did a little leg work: The 24 port model is silent also. For the people saying that they didn't get free shipping just call and order at 1800 456 3355 and a csr can get you both the router and the shipping.

This is s great deal! the router is both 802.1b and g!!

Update on the Wireless router:

definitely one of the better ones that I have come across lately and even at $89 worth the money, here's why:

- rather long antenna, which does not seem to be detachable though - should provide good range
- case can be put flat down, upright or wall mounted (nice)
- lots of router features, including port forwarding etc. - most importantly this can be run as a router or as an access point (nice)
- wireless is 802.11b and/or g and supports WEP as well as WPA

a couple of hints for a quick set-up:

default IP is 192.168.2.1
default userid and password are both "admin"
default SSID is "wireless"

None of this is mentioned in the installation manual (I guess they want you to use their disk to set it up)

Rebranding: no obvious signs on device, manual, package or GUI that would indicate who makes these

Guesses: The fact that it can be switched between router and access point points to M$, antenna design and default SSID are reminiscent of netgear, but this may very well be a real dell product or a re-branded aegire orinoco

Hey Yo2 - could you tell me if it allows port mapping, e.g. forwarding incoming traffic on port 88 to a particular address on port 80 (I'm sure you know this, but spelling it out for others who might now know).

The 16 ports switch doesn't qualify for the free router. You need to buy the PowerConnect 2024 to qualify.

I have a Cisco 1200 series AP, an ISB WaveBase router/AP and an 8-port netgear switch.
Of course they are all daisy chained togethor just to get my wife online.

This will be good because I can put this AP up as a router from my switch and move my Cisco AP to something better.
