i recently recieved my dell 1900FP (samsung rebadge) lcd monitor and i am some what disappointed. the picture is not as clear as i thought it would be. But then again, i'm running it through the analog port. I have my new video card with dvi on the way, however. will i notice a dramatic difference if the monitor is hooked up through the dvi port? if not, i was planning on returning it and getting a sony G520P 21" CRT instead. thanks for any suggestions.

Don't return it! Wait for the DVI.

I have this monitor and use the DVI port. The image quality is stupendous!

I also use the analog port as an auxilary input when I'm working on other computers (I only have one monitor). When I switch from digital to analog it is very easy to notice the drop in picture quality.

Also, make sure you're running the lcd at it's specified resolution. I have the 1702 fp and run it at 1280x1024 (recommended). My school has these same monitors and run them at 1024x768 and the picture quality is terrible. The quality drop is not the same as in going from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 on a CRT. Whenever I'm at the comp labs I'll switch it to 1280x1024 and everything looks beautiful. I am aware that increased resolutions will increase picture quality on all monitors, but realize that LCDs (unlike CRTs) are manufactured to operate at maximum quality and performance at a set resolution.

yeah, i'm running the monitor at 1280x1024 , with my new ati radeon using the dvi port. the picture quality has improved, esp. in dvds and divx movies. But i'm still returning the monitor due to dead pixels. I'm kinda upset because i called dell and had them ship me a new monitor. The new monitor arrived and has even more dead pixels. I'm just gonna pocket the money and invest it in a nice CRT monitor.

That's a shame becuase I have nothing but good things to say about the 17" version of this monitor.

Wow that's just really bad luck. A lot of people here are getting monitors with no dead pixels as samsung makes very high quality monitors. how many dead pixels do you have?

well, the dead pixel was right smack in the middle of the screen. It was clearly visible when watching dvds. If it were somewhere where it was not visivble, i wouldn't have cared for it. Also, if im going to lay down $700 for a monitor, i better get one that has ZERO dead pixels.

I agree, that's just bad luck, but yah, for $700 any imperfection would bother the crap outta me. I got lucky and have ZERO dead pixels on my 1900FP.

Zero dead pixels on my 1900FP too. And I laid out almost $1100 for it when I bought it back in April. That was using a bunch of Dell coupons. Retail price back then was $1500. IIRC.

Got the LCD from Dell with zero dead pixels. Also if you're gonna compare this to any .25 CRT there aint no chance in hell that you'll be satisfied with any LCD. Maybe in a year or two LCD technology will catch up the the finest of the CRT pixel counts. I'm using a Sony G500 21" monitor along with the Dell 1900FP on DVI. Don't get me wrong the CRT monitor blow LCD monitor out of the water in terms of clearness and refresh rate but the amount of space and weight of the LCD puts the CRt in shame.

13LBs vs 90+LBs

I have this monitor for over 8 month and I warn people about it in my earlier threads.. I still own these, I have about 8 units. DVI or no DVI its not 25 ms refresh, game still lag.. its good for excel and internet crap but not games. And like RalfHutter, I bought my frist 2 when it was over 1200.
