Well, as the owner of two Dell/AUO "8ms" panels I can tell you that those specs mean squat for gamers. While LCD itself may natively have 8ms refresh rate, the digital signal processor inside Dell 1905fp can't support that. This monitor ghosts horribly on any fast paced game or full motion video (DVD). I ended up going back to my trusty old Samsung 955df for gaming and use Dell monitors for everything else.

I just got one last Friday. It ghosts, but is playable.... for me anyway. It's OK in a lot of games though. I have a CRT for a second monitor and when I play games that ghost too bad, I just use it.

Got my dad one during the summer and love the image quality.

His was a revision AO3.

Anyone know if current 1905FP are still the same revision (primarily would be concerned if they switched the LCD panel to something else)?

i bought one with an online coupon through dell about 6 months ago and at the time was still pretty big in CSS. it ghosted so bad it looked like every thing was in slow motion. however, the colors and image quality were very nice. did you get the 8ms version or 20ms version?

how is it you see no ghosting yet others do? this doesn't make sense if they are selling the same monitor with 2 different response times. maybe your eyes only see at like 20 fps?

I've been playing Far Cry, Fear, Quake 4, Battlefield 2, Brothers in Arms EIB, and various other games.. and While I have seen ghosting on other lcd's.."this has the AUO I believe" this one I've never really noticed it on. I have had it around 8 months now. I am looking hard at the new gateway 21in widescreen.. as I've played the above games on one.. and it's just WOW all the way.

I did read the new specs on the lower end DELL 19in.. and I think it's going to be as good as the current higher end one's 8ms panel etc.. I have not read much yet though. I'm sure someone will review it.

I guess I should have pointed out that I bought mine used from someone who got in on the 2005FPW deal that I missed by only "that much". It's an A03 revision. I love it, my old monitor was getting fuzzy text, but this is beautiful and my old monitor is good enough for a second monitor and to play games on that ghost too much for the LCD.

If they're coming out with some new, faster panels for the 1905's that don't ghost then I better start saving my money for another one!!!!

Not sure why. Maybe this will explain it better:

from the At Review...

"A Special Note about Gaming and Response Time
Every time we claim that the response time on a monitor is fast enough for gaming, we get four or five emails a few weeks later claiming that the monitor we had recommended was too slow for an individual's taste. Attempting to quantify response times subjectively for everybody is a dangerous practice - comments like "16ms response time is fast enough for anyone" are just opinions and therefore, we don't actively preach them. Given some of our previous works on response time, you should be able to draw enough conclusions to see if the 20ms TrTf response time on the Dell 1905FP is capable enough for your own gaming experience.

It's my personal belief that the transient time between two current generation LCD monitors is practically impossible in real world applications, but everyone has different levels of sensitivity on the matter. In general, through sampling our readers, we have come to the conclusion that readers upgrading from a CRT to an LCD for the first time are more likely to claim one LCD monitor as "slower" than another and at least "slower" than a CRT. However, in the same regard, we have also noticed that a growing number of readers who use LCDs with advertised low response times report no complaints even if that monitor has higher transient response times (particularly gray to gray) than the industry average.

That being said, the Dell 1905FP gaming experience was no different than that of the Samsung 193P. We spoke very favorably about that LCD's gaming experience back in April, so feel free to revisit those experiences.

I got mine today, and I love it. I received a monitor with the AUO panel and not the Samsung panel as the one reviewed by Anandtech had. Want to know which panel you have? See http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/dell1905_whichpanel.htm for instructions.

I'm not sure if all monitors of the same revision have the same panels, but I have a revision A02 if this info helps anyone.

<edit>
My dad also got one, and he got a revision A03 with the Samsung panel.

What hardware revisions and panels are people getting? Is the difference between revisions A02 and A03 the panel, or is it something else? I read somewhere that the difference between A01 and A02 was that A02 powered off its USB hub when you turned off the monitor while A01 did not.

Didnt get in on this deal but bought one last month for ~324 delivered with a set of speakers to get me over the required amount so I could stack coupons.

Just took it out of the box and set it up this week. It is an AUO panel and the nicest display I think Ive ever seen.

Comparing it to my 19" Princeton that I got last Dec on a hot deal with a $100 rebate I would say it is much sharper with no noticeable ghosting on scrolling. Havent tried any games yet.

Dont see how anyone could be unhappy with this one.

The hardware revision can be found on the back of the monitor on the white label, and the on screen display (firmware?) version and panel type can be found in the hidden menu which can be accessed by following the instructions at http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/dell1905_whichpanel.htm

My monitor has the AUO panel, is a hardware revision A02 and firmware revision V018.

My dad's monitor has the Samsung panel and is a hardware revision A03. I think he said his was also a firmware version V018, but don't quote me on that.

What panel, hardware and firmware combinations are other people getting?
