I got Samsung V1.7, Rev A01, made in China. It arrived with the color balance way out of spec - all the presets looked more-or-less blue, including the "red" preset. I was able to input a "user" setting with good color but I RMA'ed it anyway because I wanted one that was properly calibrated.
My replacement just arrived an it's an AUO19 panel, V1.5, Rev A00, made in Mexico. The factory setting menu comes up with white lettering on a black background.
I'm running the two monitors side by side right now. The AUO panel looks sharper and brighter, the color looks more accurate and it seems to ghost less. The ghosting on the Samsung bothered me, even when just scrolling text. On the AUO I don't notice it as much. I'm not a gamer so I can't comment on the results with games.
Remember, the Samsung arrived out of calibration while the AUO looked good out of the box, so that may have had a bearing on the color and picture quality, even though I adjusted the two monitors to look as similar as possible to each other for this comparison.
We also have a couple of 1905FP monitors with Samsung V1.6 panels at my work. I don't notice the same kind of problems with color and ghosting on those monitors as I did on my Samsung V1.7 here at home, but the office has fluorescent lighting which might make those kinds of things less noticable, and of course I can't do a side-by-side comparison between the ones at my office and the ones here at home.
Anyway, I'm happy with the AUO, it looks good to me.
