Timeline of events:
* 02/07/04 Saturday 4pm - Okay, so I ordered.
* 02/08/04 Sunday 8am - Email sent say it has been shipped.
* 02/08/04 Sunday Noon - Around noon I notice the address is wrong. (by 1 number, which in nyc is the difference of 89 blocks.) I quickly write them telling them the address is wrong.
* 02/08/04 Sunday 8pm - I receive a reply telling me that It has already been shipped and there is nothing they can do except to call customer care. I call customer care and it's only open from 7am-7pm.
* 02/09/04 Monday 3pm - I call customer care which seems to be routed to india, the lady at the other end is very nice and corrects the billing address and says that she has to put in a logistics change form to get the correct address. She gives me a number to fax with a request ID # for the address change. I send this via efax after the call. (I didn't know who i was faxing or what the purpose was)
* 02/10/04 Tuesday 10am - Phone call from unknown (718) area code, no message left.
* 02/11/04 Wednesday 10am - Phone call from unkown (718) area code, again, message left, it is UPS.
* 02/11/04 Wednesday Noon - I call back UPS, they tell me the shipping address is wrong and I agree and tell them the correct address. They tell me that they cannot ship without confirmation from dell. I say ok.
* 02/12/04 Thursday 9:30 am - Dell calls me, this time I have my ringer on and answer the phone. They indicate to me that UPS cannot deliver because the address is wrong!?!? I tell them the story and they write down my new address and say it's fixed.
* 02/13/04 Friday 2pm - I check the tracking status of my package. It has traveled from NJ->NYC->Brooklyn->NJ->IL. Ironically it started out only 3 miles from where i live and now it's in illinois.
* 02/13/04 Friday 6:30pm - After pondering where it has gone, I realize it might be going back to dell's HQ. So i call them again. The lady informs me that it is being sent back to dell and there is nothing they can do. So she has set it up to be shipped to me once it arrives at dell in Austin.
This is ridiculous. Everytime i talked to UPS and Dell it seems like everyone was on a different page of the book.
This is the first time i've ever dealt with Dell, am I doing something wrong? I simple mistake as small as that shouldn't cause so many problems. Meanwhile, I have no monitor at all and have to go on campus to get any work done (I'm an ee grad student.) Any ideas what i should do to get a monitor in the meantime? It doesn't look like i'll get this thing for another week or two, and who knows what kind of condition it'll be in.
Happy Friday the 13th,
-Chris
