Well, the replacement was a May A01. 3 Stuck green pixels in black only, but they are hard to find, and backlighting isn't as obvious, as it seems slightly purple instead of grey/white. I'll get a better look at it when the room is completely dark, but I think I may keep it. I'll try to massage out the 3 stuck ones. When the Apple 20" drops in price I'll probably get that and sell this for whatever I can get for it, but its good enough I guess, as 3 stuck pixels in black only isn't worth $200.

BTW, I didn't get return labels either.

Well, I ordered my 2005FPW on May 18th. I received it 6 days later on the 24th. It's A01 manufactured in March 2005. No dead pixels but really bad backlight bleeding. On the 24th, spent about 30 min with a Dell representative and their supervisor via online chat. They stated that I must go through technical support. I called 1-800-624-9896 Extension 0066955 and waited until someone answered. I told them the problem. They gave me a return authorization number and address. The address is to Ingram Micro Logistics in Texas. I wonder why they are not telling me to send it to Dell? They also told me I have to wait 24hrs. for UPS to get the return authorization request. At which point, *I* have to call them for a pickup. The last time I sent something back to Dell, they called UPS. The phone call took about 40 min.

Here is the worst news though: I have to wait 10 days for a replacement. This is completely unsatifactory. *I* have to do footwork and call UPS, then I have to wait 10 days to get a defective product replaced. Yeah, this maybe my last deal with Dell.

Ok, the next morning, I talked with Dell again to verify the Ingram Micro Address. This time, they gave me a different address. This one is to Tillium in Loiusville, KY. I asked them about Trillium and they stated that it was a Dell facility. After that, the tech gave me the same reference number.

A little while later, I received an email from Dell stating that UPS will come to my residence to pick up the defective monitor. I was thinking, so which address is the defective monitor going to be sent to. I looked at UPS's website, it said KY. UPS came today and picked it up, but no tracking information has been updated on their website.

Upon looking at my order for the new monitor on Dell's site, it shows that it has been shipped and the estimated date of delivery is May 27th. What?!? Could this be true? Could this be the beginning of Dell redeeming themselves? I wonder if I will receive any backlight or dead/stuck pixels? If it truly is delivered tomorrow, then the only thing that would hurt Dell is if they sent me another defective monitor. We'll see. Just like everyone else, I will keep everyone posted.

Hurrah to all of you who got the May Rev A02 version!
So the Rev A01's are crappy, but the A02's are OK, right? Between this and the 2001FP backlight fiasco, it seems like Dell needs at least one Rev to screw up before they get it right. I guess that means I'll be holding off on the 2405FPWs for a while, too.....

Just got mine, its an April 2005 A02. Everything seems perfect. No dead pixels that I can tell with the test I ran. There is slight backlight bleeding in the lower left corner, but it looks far better than the backlight bleeding pics I have seen posted on here. I will do more extensive testing later (haven't tried gaming or movies on it yet), but so far this monitor looks great.

Ok, UPS just updated their website. The origin of the package is from NV. That's seems a bit odd. But UPS has rescheduled the delivery for May 31st. So much for that hope.

There are people in this thread that have A02s and still have problems. There are some that have A01s that don't have a problem. I think it's just a gamble now.

Here's an update of my situation. I got my 2nd replacement monitor and it was the same April 2005, A01 from Mexico. Although this one has no dead pixels, I'm still not 100% satisfied because it has very faint backlight bleeding in the top and bottom left corners.

So I emailed Dell for a 3rd replacement, because there is no way I'm ever going to call them again. The customer support rep arranged pickup of my 1st monitor via UPS which came today. He also said he generated another order for the 3rd monitor which will come with a DHL prepaid postage to send back the 2nd one.

As of right now, I waiting on getting the order number. It says it takes 48-72 hours to be generated!

Lol, yeah well I was home all day waiting for my replacement (first replacement) to arrive as Dell claimed that it was in transit and on time for a scheduled delivery date of today, 26 May; nothing came... UPS tracking only says they have my billing info, nothing else, kind of mysterious. Guess I will have to wait and see if I get my replacement tomorrow :-\.

I just got my replacement, a little bit of backlighting but that's doesn't bother me. No dead pixels, it is a May A01.

And no return label also, do we have to call Dell to get that?

I just got mine, no dead pixels, no stuck pixels, no backlighting problems.

But whoever says this monitor doesn't have smearing (aka "ghosting") in games has either been hitting the crack pipe a bit too much or is coming from a high latency LCD.

There is DEFINITELY smearing. No question about it. I'm coming from a CRT and it is absolutely there and very annoying - it makes enemies harder to distinguish in areas where they blend in if you're rotating your view at all. It's not nearly as bad as the 25ms panel I tried from dell about a month ago and boxed back up within 5 minutes.

Right now I'm trying to decide if I can live with the smearing or not. It's not so bad that games are unplayable but it's still annoying and could definitely impact my play. Maybe I'll send it back and get a LD90+ from newegg. Blah.

I wouldn't accept any dead pixles.

trying to get the right dell person on the phone is nearly impossible. They keep transferring me and hanging up. The online chat doesnt work on my home computer and at work it kept disconnectiong as well.

The only game I'm really playing right now...Battlefield Vietnam. There are some scaling issues that are limited by the game (widescreen support in BF2, woot), but aside from that there is also some smearing.

The dead pixel is really obvious...

If it bugs you I'd send it back. If not, I'd just live with it. I suppose a dead pixel is better than a stuck one though

I like how when you select monitors on the phone menu for dell, later on while you are waiting it will say if you aren't calling for a dimension to hang up and call again. . I think they don't want to talk to me.

isn't a dead pixel worse? a dead pixel doesn't turn on, right? a stuck pixel is when it displays the wrong color in a certain background?

thank you.

You can read a quick article about the pixels at About.com You can read more about the backlight bleeding on Google.com

Ok, on the evening of the 26th, UPs had updated the note on thier tracking results. It says that it was on time. Sure enough on the next day(yesterday), it said that it was out for delivery. So in the end, they did get me a new monitor VERY quickly. It helped restore my faith in Dell. Yesterday, I took it out of the box and noticed that it's A01 - Manufac. May 2005. Of course, i wasn't too hopefull to get a Rev. A01 monitor. I plugged it in and didn't notice any signs of backlight bleeding. I didn't see nay stuck pixels either. I hooked it up to my computer, DVI-D, ad started looking for dead pixels. I didn't see any. Even this morning, the monitor looks great. No problems with it so far. I am very pleased with it. I am very happy that I received a replacement during the same week as receiving the defective monitor.

Some people have mentioned that this monitor is so bright. That is an understatement. Having everything at their factory defualts is like looking at the sun. It's EXTREMELY bright. So when shopping for an LCD, think about how bright it is. Of course, when my living room lights up in the afternoon, the 2005FPW doesn't get washed out. I will have to adjust it via my video card settings or Adobe Gamma. I have only played Halo, but it's almost like playing it on a CRT. I don't see any ghosting or smearing. With or without my glasses on.

So to recap:
05-18-05: Ordered 2005FPW+Filler for $442.59 in p.m.(One sad Californian. )
05-24-05: Received monitor. Quickly saw backlight. Repackaged it and contacted Order Customer Care via Live Chat in p.m. Tarique and supervisor Ned stated that I had to contact the Tech. Dept. to get the return authorization number. About 35 min process.
05-25-05: Contacted Tech Dept. via telephone. Told them the issue. Romel gave me a Return Auth. # and address to Ingram Micro Logistics. About a 40 min process. Was worried about return address. I was told to contact UPS the next day to schedule a pickup. Contacted Order Customer Care via Live Chat. Ashima (a.k.a Ursulla) stated a DIFFERENT return address to Trillium. It's supposed to be a Dell facility. I was told that a replacement order had been placed and that they would get it to me VERY quickly. I asked about the address and they replied to just use the DHL Airborne shipping label that will be in the replacement box. I was told that I would receive the replacement monitor before they came to pick up the defective one. About a 30 min process. Shortly after, I received an email from Dell stating that UPS will come the next business day to pickup the defective monitor. I looked up the Reference # (Return Auth #) at UPS's website. It was going to the Trillium address. Put return address on box and gave it to the UPS courier. I looked up the repalcement order at UPS. Was due to arrive on May 27th.
05-26-05: In a.m. UPS had a note in their tracking results. package was rescheduled for delivery on May 31st. In p.m., the note was changed. It now stated that it was on time and due to arrive on the 27th.
05-27-05: Packaged arrived in the afternoon. It was Rev. A01 manufac. in May 2005. Everything looks great so far.

In 9 days, seven working days, Dell sent me two monitors and picked up the defective one. Not too shabby. Even though I was getting upset at the beginning of this ordeal, all of the Dell representatives were nice even if they did not give me the right information.

Actually, I'm not sure whether I have a dead pixel or a stuck pixel.

When I move my mouse over it, I can see the lines that outline the pointer, but there appears to be no light going to that specific pixel. Its just really dark.

Got mine today. Noticible backlight issue and 1 green pixel. If they hadn't screwed my friend over with the Rebel XT not shipping, I'd probably just deal with it, but it is time to exchange this one.

I am sending back my second LCD. It's backlight problem is worse than the first one and the Dell tech promised me that he will make sure that this will be the last one that i have to exchange. Well, we will see.

Btw, for those have problems getting the chat to work for missing service tag, just enter your 7 digit phone number.
