I ordered mine last thursday and got it yesterday. Rev A01 from April 05. Backlight bleeding is very noticable in 2 corners, and one pixel is stuck red. I could probably get used to it but if theres a Rev A02 i'm not going to settle for an A01. Whats the quickest/easiest way to get a replacement?

I got a 1905fp rev. A02 monitor and have backlight bleeding in about 2 corners, 1 corner a pretty fair amount. But that is less of an issue than the overall brightness, which even when set to its lowest level, its almost good enough to use in a lighthouse on lake michigan (certainly is on its highest level...) As a result the colors are too bright. :frown:

This is my first lcd...anyone else get this overall brightness issue?

/edit: to test for backlighting issues, unplug the monitor from the video card (with monitor plugged in, computer on etc.)

Yeah, CA stinks. We have some of the highest car isurance, land and/or a home is outrageous, and gas is out of this world. Then, they made the "environmental fee." If the politicians actually spend the money on the environment, then I would be all for it. After that, Dell put a kiosk in one of our local malls. Of course that now means tax. Sheesh. Read it and weep. I know I am. I opted for the Belkin DJ cupholder. I have a feeling I will see a bunch of those on eBay....hehe

Sub-Total $403.33
Shipping Discount -$14.00
Shipping and Handling $0.00
Tax $31.26
State Environment Fee $8.00
More Info
Total $442.59

Still a pretty good price for the monitor. I didn't want to wait for the 24" to come down.

xchus, backlight bleeding is when the backlighting isnt even across the screen (usually in the corners). its not really noticable except on a dark background. here is an example (not my pic but pretty close to how mine looks)

How bad bleeding is? I mean my LCD looks kinda like that. Is it too bad? or we can live with it?

I've heard it depends on which revision you own. My 2005FPW has no dead pixels nor bleeding.

It was purchased 2 months ago. I'd also check out the Video forum which has dozens of 2005FPW threads.

I looked into the issue of the monitor being too bright overall and many people have this problem with dells and other lcd's. The best thing to do is reduce the colors in the adobe gamma control panel or the video card software properties.

Also someone recommended on the dell forum displaycalibration.com to help set the color levels.

well I couldn't resist the temptation any longer. I ordered the 2005fpw along with a 512mb cruzer mini usb drive(needed one of these too!). Total came out to about $460 after all the coupons. The $30ish tax plus $8 enviromental fee to california really hurts, but still a great price for me. (cruzer mini was $29 after 25% off flash memory coupon)

Got a 1905fp as well, ordered on the 16th and it on the 17th inspite the original June 1 arrival date.

It's a Rev AO1 Samsung panel. After a couple of days of testing and tweaking i can gladly say that:

- There are no dead or stuck pixels
- There is no backlight bleeding
- Finally tweaked the colors to be useable
- The viewing angles are awesome. Much better than my old IBM LCD which would shift colors when moving even 15 degrees either direction

For those who can, try setting your gamma level between .67 - .71. On the LCD, set your brightness and contrast to between 50 - 54 and for colors tweak the RGB values to your preference. (I work on a 6500k to 5000k temp so the values i have may be too "yellow" for you.)

I forgot to bring the Spyder along so i couldn't properly calibrate it, but with the settings above i managed to get it close to my calibrated CRT (P95f+).

Overall, though the LCD is good - i still think, for those in the design industry, the colors are still a bit off on this form of display. It's close, but not close enough.

I think the 2005fpw may be a better choice for colors, seeing as it's the same panel as the Apple Cinema displays which are SWOP certified. Though the backlight bleeding might shift the colors a bit.

Does anyone know if the Radion 9700 Pro will work with this monitor (2005FPW)? I just ordered the monitor yesterday since it was such a great deal. I just figured my 9700 Pro would work with it, but now I'm starting to wonder!

What's to wonder about? You have a video card, and you bought a monitor. It would work with an SIS built-in video chip if you wanted it to.

Here is what there is to wonder about... Not all video cards will support the optimal resolution this monitor has to offer, namely 1680 X 1050. I am asking does the ATI 9700 Pro support this WSXGA resolution.

Does your card driver/software allow you to input new resolutions? My old Ti4200 doesn't have this resolution built-in but i was able to add it in under custom resolution.

For those that got on this deal on the 17th...

Has anyone's 2005FPW shipped yet? Ordered mine on the night of 17th, still hasn't shipped. Getting anxious since it's my first LCD and it's a beast to boot!

And for xtabi, a 9700 Pro should have no problems supporting that resolution.
ATI lists that the maximum resolution the card supports is 2048x1536 which is well in range of 1680x1050.

I finally got Dell to send me a replacement 2005FPW which they said would be delivered in 3-4 business days. The "tech" had me boot into my BIOS and make sure there were no magnets next to my LCD that would cause the dead pixels/backlight bleeding issues I described. It went on and on, but you get the idea.

How do you people deal with this replacement hassle? I was on the phone for an hour and talked to 5 different people before I could make this happen. I tried to do the chat support, but you need an asset tag. Maybe email would have been a better way?

according to the video forum experts it's a driver that supports not the card.. latest drivers support this res

Well, my experience is quite simple and pleasant. I called the Dell number @ their site. Then simply go to the "other question" department. I told that Indian girl (oversea support) that my LCD has damages on them and some defect (looked like a used LCD). She simply replied that Dell will send out a replacement to me. Then we went through some info process and that's it. The whole conversation took about 15 min. Today, I got a phone call from Dell support and CS told me about my new order number and I should receive it in 3-4 business days. I specifically asked her that I will receive a new LCD, not refurb. And she said that of course I'm getting a brand new LCD. BTW, Dell is paying for both way shipping. When I receive my new LCD, it will come w/ a new return label. Simply put the old monitor in the box and drop it off at any local UPS office and that's it.

You have 21 days no question return/exchange policy from Dell. So, act soon, I'm not sure if that's 21 days from the date or ordering or receiving your LCD.
