Can someone confirm something for me? You have 21 days to replace the monitor for whatever reason, from the day you ordered it. Does this 21 days reset with each new replacement monitor? I have read about people getting 3+ replacement monitors and that doesn't seem possbile if the 21 day period is not extended. Either that or Dell is considering a monitor with a backlight problem to be "defective", in which case it would be covered by the 3 year warranty.

I think you should be able to replace 3+ monitors even if you only have 21 days as you will receive the replacement monitor within 2-3 business day (at least in my case).

Lol, so I got my replacement and it is worse then the orriginal one I had. 2 stuck pixels (white!) and backlighting issues which are not just isolated to the corners, no, but across the entire monitor. So I guess I will try one more time, if it is not better I think I am just going to say screw it and live with my orriginal.

-Eric

P.S. - Oh yeah, Dell screwed up too and did not send me any return labels either, bah.

Well I called in a got a replacement sent out. They are paying for return shipping so I figure what do I have to lose? The whole process was pretty easy. The tech just had me unplug the monitor but leave it powered on. Once I confirmed the backlight bleedthrough was still present, she got my address to send the replacement to. She said she was familiar with this problem, but couldn't guarantee that I would receive a May 2005 A02 when I asked about it.

Well I got my 3rd monitor (replacement) today, it is a May, A02. The backlight bleeding issue is not so bad, about the same as my 2nd monitor, however this one has 3 messed up pixels. I'll give it a day and see if it gets any better, but I'll probably just settle and keep the 2nd one because I don't feel like going through the process again. Plus, I doubt the crap shoot replacement they send me will be any better. Good luck to everyone else who's waiting on one.

Well, I got my 2nd monitor, but I'm shipping it right back. 1 dead pixel and some backlighting issues.

However, I managed to fix my first monitor...turns out it was just a small piece of dust blocking the backlight. All I had to do was forcefully hit the monitor a few times and it came out.

Hey airhead, try looking it up in a different forum. Better still look it up on a different site.

How do you get the screen to change when you turn it vertically? Mine stays sideways.
Is there a way to have two seperate FF browsers open, ie one on each side with tabs or something? I know you can do it manually, but i didnt know if there was an easier way.

I got my replacement yesterday. It seems to have no problems so far. It's a may2005 Rev A02.

Sounds to me like Dell has wasted a lot of money on these

They forgot to include a return label. What the heck am I supposed to do without one?? Guess I have to call them again.

w00t, got my second replacement on the way and Dell supposedly arranged for UPS to pick up the two extras from me once the next one arrives. Hopefully this one will be good with no backlight problems and no stuck/dead pixels, as I always say...

Just checked this thread for the first time since getting mine a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't aware of the different revisions, but apparently I lucked out as mine is a May 2005 A02. No backlight issues and only one stuck green subpixel, but it's off in a corner and barely noticeable. Definitely not worth playing replacement russian roulette over.

I'm impressed. Glad I got in on this deal.

Received my 3rd one today, and no problems with pixels, but the backlighting problem just ruins it. I may be able to squeeze in one more exchange, but at this point the joy of a new monitor is gone and I might as well just return it outright.

EDIT: May A01

the first 2005 I received had 3 dead pixels and a little backlight issue...got the replacement...absolutely perfect. I'm using it now as a tv/pc monitor with the AS500 speakers and it's amazing...

great monitor once you get the right one...

Hello everyone. Just wanted to make another post here. I got my monitor about 3 weeks ago. It is an A01 May 2005 2005FPW. It has no dead pixels and no backlighting issues. I am very happy with the monitor and highly recommend it. I play FPS games and this is my first LCD screen and I have no complaints. I used to have a 21" CRT. Thanks for all of your help! And thanks to the poster for posting this deal! $420 shipped is a deal I'm glad I did not pass up!!!

No, dell considers monitors as an accessory, therefore the warranty is not transferrable like their systems.

Got my 3rd monitor on Friday, a REV01, May 2005. Has a little backlight bleed through on the top right and left, a hint of it in the bottom right, but barely. I am pretty happy with it and am going to keep it, no dead or stuck pixels either; better than my first two, but then again my first was better than my second. Never had a REV02, but I do not care, I do not want to do another exchange especially when this one is good enough for me. Even with the hassle I went through, it is quite a good monitor!

It seems I am one of the few who was HAPPY with my 2005FPW...sure the backlighting may not be completely uniform, but I was more than satisfied, it was no worse than my hitachi LCD CML174 and there were no stuck or dead pixels.

I guess I'm just not anal about backlighting.
