I just saw a deal over in the hot deals forum for the 2005FPW for $524. Thinking about getting it. On the dell site it gives recommended graphics cards. It doesn't list much on the nVidia side, but it says the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro will run it. I have a 6600GT, so I guess I should be fine.

How well does it do for gaming? I know it is a wide screen, so there will be bars on the side, but that is no concern. Being so large, is the response time good enough for gaming?

Thanks for input.

I would say you're fine on your 6600GT for sure...and you should be able to run most widescreen capable games....you just might have to turn down some of the settings at that resolution to get good framerates...I know I did w/ HL2 and my 6800NU. There is always the option of running games at non-widescreen resolutions (ie 1280x1024) and putting the black bars on the sides, which I think looks fine for games like Q3A and other older ones.

Alot of people say its fine for gaming with re: to response time and don't notice ghosting. I can tell you that I notice it for sure and think no LCD right now compares to the CRT I'm used to.

Overall a sweet monitor...just wish I had the $ for the 2405!

it will run fine with the 6600GT and the monitor is pretty good for games as well, it is not it's strong characterist though....

If you only buy a monitor for games .. get something which is 12ms or less...

Have you read about the new 4ms ones from ViewSonic! ???

The new "4ms" ones are all 17" and 19" though, so if you want higher than 1280x1024 resolution, you're out of luck.

In any case, the 2005FPW is rated 12ms for gray-to-gray transitions and 16ms for black-to-black or something like that. I own one myself and it's great for gaming. It's true that it can't match a CRT, but it also can't match a CRT in weight.

As was mentioned, most games will let you set up a widescreen resolution so you can game without bars on either side (I do this with all my games). Or, if you're so inclined, you can just stretch a 4:3 resolution to full screen, depending on whether or not you'll be bothered by the aspect ratio mismatch.

I have the 2005 and run a bfg 6800u with all the bells and whistles running...it does a splendid job...

curious, what will the 4m give you over the 12m...anything significant?

It shouldn't have any huge impact .. but ViewSonic claims that the 4ms is the MAX whereas the 12-16ms for the Dell is the min...

I guess if you play a racing game or a fast third person you might see some "lines"... those how own the 2005FPW can let us know

myself I hardly play any games at all, because I don't have the time to spare...

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not a hardcore gamer and even when I do play games, I don't play FPS's which are the most likely to have ghosting issues. I surf a lot and do image editting, so the widescreen seems perfect for these applications. I play RPG's when good ones actually come out(Guild Wars next month).

I've been reading about backlight bleeding issues on this monitior when it first came out. Has that issue been pretty much resolved? Thanks.
