Dell 2005fpw or 2001fp

Which one would you prefer? The 20" 4:3 (2001fp) or 20" 16:10 (2005fpw)

By height, do you mean pixel resolution or actual physical dimentions?

You actually get more total screen area with the conventional 1600x1200.
I have the 2005FPW, it's a very nice monitor. Be advised that not all games support the widescreen display. HL, HL2 and Farcry (the games I have) do support it. Doom III does not. Id can KMA! The game is a resource hog, is way too dark and isn't a whole lot of fun. HL 1 and 2 and FarCry are way better. Better looking and more fun to play.

Well, although there are several other threads that you can peruse to see people's opinions about this, I'll leave mine.

I own both, and like them both a lot. However, after getting the 2005, I want to trade my 2001 for a 2005 because I like the wide aspect, want my monitors to be the same (it kinda bothers me having one be noticeably taller than the other), and I just like the 2005 better.

Gaming on the 2001 was fun, but I can't compare them as I've only played Resident Evil 4 on my gamecube on the 2005.

I like the 2005 better, but then again, I run the brightness full on (the 2005 is noticeably brighter than the 2001). I have very minor backlight issues that don't bother me at all.

In all honesty, I think most people would prefer the 2001, but I like the 2005 better myself. If I could get a second 2001 in place of my 2005 easier, I'd settle for two of those and not regret it.j

Most games that have come out in the past few years have supported widescreen. These days it is actual wide-screen and not just top and bottom cut off like it used to be so that is an improvement. Check Dells website, they have the panel dimensions there.

As for doom 3... I enjoyed it greatly and found it to be alot of fun. Better than HL 2? Dunno, D3 certainly had a better ending, but what game doesn't? I really liked the dark, industrial look of the game and found it quite creepy at night with surround sound on.

The 2001 is 16" x 12". The 2005 is 17" x 10.6." I got the 2005 because the time when I most want more screen area is when I'm doing something in wide screen, such as movies or HDTV. In these applications, the greater real estate of the 2001 just gets you bigger black bars at the top and bottom of the screen and an inch less of width. I also enjoy the wider field of view when gaming in widescreen, and being better able to have two windows side by side. Plus, the specs on the brightness and contrast of the 2005 are better although I haven't compared the two in person.

In any case, I'm happy with the 2005 and glad I chose it over a 4:3 20", in spite of overall less screen area. If 4:3 makes more sense for what you do on the computer, then the 2001 might be better for you.
