Dell 2007WFP

I was wondering what people think about the Dell 2007wfp monitor. I heard that they used to have a panel lottery, but is it true that they are now IPS panels? If not, do they at least have a good 8-bit panel?

Basically I'm looking for a 20" monitor that looks pretty good, and the Dell is a highly adjustable screen at a nice price ($340 I think). If anyone has any suggestions for a good monitor at about that price range, but more importantly one that has good IQ, let me know!

I don't know how the panel lottery's going these days.

The Acer AL2051W (16:10) may be up your alley, and the HP LP2065 (4:3) isn't too shabby. Both are true 8-bit panels, but the Acer is a glossy widescreen. The HP has some advantages for general usage and has an extremely wide viewing angle. It only features a standard anti-glare coating, though, much like the Dell 2007WFP.

Just for reference:

Anti-glare = standard 4H hard coating (e.g. Dell UltraSharp), less contrast due to light emanating across the panel as it hits

Anti-reflective = special optic filter for maximum transmittance (e.g. NEC OptiClear/Acer CrystalBrite), reflections and glare from ambient light more prominent

so it'll either be an ips or pva panel. you wont know which one you'll get until you actually get it home and turn it on.

How does the Dell 2007wfp's PVA panel (worst-case scenario) fare against the Acer's MVA panel? The Acer is nice and cheap, but I like the look of the Dell more, plus the adjustable stand is nice... Of course, image quality is the most important to me. Oh, by the way, I'll be using it for some gaming/ multimedia (DVD's, etc.)

Hmm. I'd prefer the Acer's P-MVA+glossy over the Dell's S-PVA+antiglare. You always have a chance to return the Dell should you not be happy with it. I say cheat them like they've cheated us. Just gamble, see if you get an S-IPS and if not return it and let Dell know you're unhappy with their panel lottery game. Then grab the Acer.

I know the AL2051W is 8-bit. I believe the 2007WFP S-PVA is 8-bit, although there's a chance it's a 6-bit panel.

I have a dell S-IPS 2007 WFP, I just bought a westinghouse 42" that I am going to use as my monitor though. I'd be interested in selling mine if you're interested send me a PM. I am not sure what to ask for, I paid about $390 or so back in Jan when I got it. It's in mint condition.

I just got an HP LP2065 for my office and I think it's pretty sweet, but of course I don't like widescreen or glossy coatings for office work so it's perfect for me, YMMV.

Yeah the revision number in the factory menu.

Load up a fullscreen 16-step grayscale. Look at an 89 degree angle and see if the grayscale inverts when you view it from the opposite 89 degree. You can also look a bit off to the side and see if one shade of gray looks more visible than when looking at it from the center. If so, you've got an S-PVA panel. If you simply notice very slight but consistent fading of brightness, it's an S-IPS.

OK, thanks for the info. I guess the difference will be fairly obvious with these tests, right? In the factory info screen, or whichever one shows the revision numbers, will it say which panel it has also?

Awesome. After reading this thread an doing a few tests, I just found out I have S-IPS 2007WFP.

Ironically, immediately after finding this out, I felt a little disappointed because I misread some of the posts and thought that it was the inferior technology.

Greyscale never inverted and when I look at it from above (extreme angle), it has a purple hue.

It's a big difference from the TN panel I upgraded from. It seemed like I'd shift my head just a little bit and the brightness would change quite a bit.
