Dell 2209WA 22" e-IPS LCD Display Monitor - $200 + Tax + Free Ship
MSRP is $300 but with this deal you get it for roughly $200 + Free Shipping + Tax. Most 22" IPS screens start at around $500.

This new display is getting rave reviews on HardForum.com (Link-25 page+ thread. It came out in January 2009 and is significantly better than TN type monitors (which is the vast majority of 22" screens at the moment). The reason for this awesome price is that eIPS (as compared to IPS-S or IPS-H) is a new manufacturing technology that allows lower costs, but keeps the high quality of IPS models. This is the only in-market eIPS product as of now.

Here's how you get the deal:

1. Call Dell Small Business @ 1-877-279-7897
2. Choose "If you know the extension you want" and enter 9460271
3. You will be connected to Marcus Jones. ONLY Marcus offers this deal, but has been doing it for many people as confirmed on HardForum.com and myself. There was no problems ordering and I would consider it a hassle-free process (i didn't have to haggle or anything!). DO NOT leave a message for Marcus and expect him to call you back. Keep calling until he picks up. Also keep in mind that he is in Texas so they are operating on Central Time.
4. Say you're interested in UltraSharp 2209WA (Dell Part Number 320-7825). He should know what you are talking about and the price should be $200.33 Free Shipping + TAX. (For NY it was $16.78. I hear that CA residents have to pay an additional Recycle Fee).
The item usually retails for $300, which is already a steal.

I got a shipping date within a week of my order.

This deal is LIVE as I just did it with no hassles from Marcus @ Tuesday Feb 10. Others on Hardforum.com have had the product delivered to them already at the same price.

More info on display
- THIS IS NOT A TN Display. It is an e-IPS display, which has higher quality for colors and viewing angles. You can find lower priced TN displays but this eIPS monitor is visibly better to the typical user.
- This is a 16x10 screen, NOT a 16x9.
- The stand is a highly versatile stand. 2209WA Stand Demonstration Video on YouTube
- There are 2 USB slots on the bottom left side of the display and an additional 2 underneath.
- THIS IS NOT to be confused with the S2209W, which has been around for some time and is a lower quality TN model.
- With my order I received "3YR Limited Warranty Monitor, Advanced Exchange". Someone on HardForum stated that they got a monitor that was damaged and Dell sent them a replacement for free. All he had to do was put the damaged monitor in the received replacement box and send it back (with free prepack shipping label). So no costs for returns.

No, it's anti-glare, but from everything I've read, it's not to an obnoxious level. Seems like a damn good monitor for the price. I didn't know that people were still getting this deal.

Sounds like a heck of a deal. I've been looking for something to pair with my 20" iMac for photo editing.

Here's a newbie question. What happens when you try to view 1080p on a 1050 monitor. Is it compressed, are 30 lines lost, or something else?

I thought this deal was dead already via the thread on SD? Well not really dead but price is now $250+ which actually isn't bad still for these specs.

Was hoping Marcus would start doing this again. I'll have to try tomorrow morning.

It is compressed, and you lose more than 30 lines.

Reason is this: Vast majority of HD content is in 16:9 aspect ratio, or 1.78:1. HDTV's have that aspect ratio, so HD content fills the entire screen.

Most widescreen monitors have a 16:10, or 1.6:1 aspect ratio. That means they are a little "taller" than HD content. As a result, you either have to "zoom" in on the content, and cut off a little from the sides, or you have thin black letterbox bars above and below the content. It's nowhere near as obnoxious as the letterboxing of widescreen content on regular (4x3, or 1.33:1) displays, but it's there.

So, if you take 1920x1080 content, and resize it for a 1680-pixel-wide 22" monitor, you end up scaling the video to 87.5% of its original resolution (1680 / 1920). The video then takes up 945 horizontal lines out of 1050. You end up using 90% of your monitor area.

Off-topic, but this is also why 19" and 22" LCD TV's are a bad idea. They are based on 16x10 monitor panels, instead of proper aspect ratio 16x9 TV panels, like 23" TV's and up.

I just got done talking to the online live sales chat and scored one for $213 shipped + tax. Just sweet talk them and you won't even have to bother Marcus over the phone, plus you can do it from the comfort of your chair! Awesome!!

would have jumped on it if I didn't score on my FE2111SB. sounds like the best value in the market atm for a quality monitor, but <24'' is not enough to abandon visually near flawless diamondtron good for those of you who got one for $200ish

This may be a silly question, so forgive me, but which aspect ratio is generally better for gaming - 16:10 or 16:9? And if the answer is 16:10, is it better to get a 1920x1200?

Did you get the "W" or the "WA"? Careful, the IPS panel is the "WA" version.

23" 1080 version of this panel has been spotted, but no products as yet (read that 28 page HardForum discussion yesterday). This 22" looks like a winner (color, angles). Love to see a deal on that 23" one.

16:10 is preferred for gaming (both 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 are 16:10, or 1.6: 1), Some people prefer 16:9 (1.78: 1), esp for watching videos, so they don't see black bars while watching wide-screen dvd's. Unfortunately, many movies are made at 2.3:1 ratio, so they will still see black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Furthermore, 16:10 is already too wide for viewing internet, and 16:9 makes it even more so.

Would have been more interesting to me had I not have gotten in on the Acer Ferrari monitor.

Seriously though, when I'm gaming I don't notice any supposed "crappy TN" stuff.

Most really don't unless they are used to higher end stuff or rely on it for their jobs.
