I'm not sure why anybody would want to game at 2160p... you aren't gaining much of anything at the expense of increasing the load on your GPU by a factor of 4.

Huh? That makes no sense. So, by your logic, we should all game at 480p (or lower) because I mean, come on, raising the resolution isn't gaining you "much of anything".

No, because you can tell the difference at 480p.

It has always been a matter of diminishing returns when it comes to greater resolutions.

Many games people played on Xbox 360 and PS3 were actually running 720, upscaled to 1080p... not that many people noticed - though if you could barely tell if you have some static screenshots.

With 2160p, what are you gaining? More resolution for your HUD graphics? If the TV can interpolate from 1080p to 2160p with antialiasing, it's basically doing the same thing the Xbox 360 and PS3 did on many games, only at 4 times the resolution.

The biggest difference you'll see at 2160p is your game card chugging along trying to keep up, with pretty much no noticeable improvement in the graphics over 1080p.

I was a 4K hater until I got my 1440P 27" screen. With it close enough I can still sorta see the pixels and the dot pitch is pretty normal. That means I'm ready for more.

pretty much, especially the upscaling comments. gotta be a troll.

Either a troll or, he may be deluding himself because he can't afford to buy better hardware. So he has convinced himself of a number of things, one of them that adding additional pixels above 1080p is worthless! And also, might as well just run everything at 720p and upscale it from there!

@OP: I was also looking at 4k monitors. There are a few tiling monitors that looked good, but they were priced as much or more than that 24" you posted.

The 32" is actually what I'd prefer, but $3500 is ridiculous.

If you end up ordering it, let us know how you like it.

Dell has stated their 28" 4K will be more consumer friendly and under $1,000 (which means $999). I don't think it will have full Adobe RGB, which is fine for me because I don't do any kind of professional photo work. I don't care if my code is colored accurately as long as it compiles. >_<

oh, I ordered it (the 24) back on the 14th with next day shipping. It has been delay after delay though.... not looking to ship on the 27th. The delays have been "profitable" though. Shipping has been comp'd and a $100 Gift Card.. Would much rather have the monitor though instead of booby prizes.

Perhaps demand was much higher than they expected. =( Sucks you won't begetting it before Christmas though.

Man, I wish you had gotten this already! I want to hear your impressions of it. Some people have been getting them, there are a few posters on [h] with them.

On the first week I was getting disconnected all the time.. lately it's been fine. Two 780 ti's enough to run that at 4k (w/ fxaa) and everything else max? can't find any benchmarks of BF4 at 4k

Seems like the 28" 4k is only 30Hz and a TN panel, thus the low price ($600 via EPP - see SD)

Of course you will tell the difference. 24" inches only hits 200ppi, and considering how close my monitor is to my eyes, I know I will see the benefit of the increased resolution.

Yeah the 28" 30Hz TN monitor should have never left the drawing board. Though I do admire the effort of this 24" monitor, a backlit IPS screen running at 60Hz through DisplayPort.

The only real problem is the price (which will eventually decrease) that and 24" is blindingly small for 4K resolution.

I'm not even itching to upgrade to UHD.

Would be nice to, but not even necessary...

The 28" Dell 4K "under $1000" monitor is only 30Hz??? Have you seen that confirmed anywhere? Seems pointless if true, when you can get the 39" Seiki 4K TV for $400 on sale.

It's on sale at their site for like $630 (after code) and yes 30Hz.
