Why post this ignorant topic on multiple forums? You were already shown that most any game can be run WS, and a lot of new games are native WS.

Dont be jealous.

(my replies are to dark and anandemide... I have no clue what Ackmed is talking about - sorry)

OK - all I was doing is playing back what "CJ" at Dell told me (unlike the price question she one had to go away for... get an answer from someone).

If indeed these are 8 bit, they are close to first for any 8 bit panel that is 12-16 ms, at least from what I have been able to read (most of which is this site's product and technology reviews).

Re: this price - 6-bit panels are easier to make than 8 bit - they should be cheaper (again, my assumption, and certainly not Gospel, from what I remember reading, esp this site).

(Gospel carries a bit more authority, eh?)

Secondly, she confirmed it is a 6 bit panel (as its speed suggests) and maybe that's why Isocene feels his Viewsonics colors are deeper / more accurate (aka "better"). An 8 bit panels' would be...

Guess our alternative is the coupons...

YOu could always try calling the other people. PM me and I can give you their info.

1. The specs are better than the viewsonic, though I am well aware that means nothing until you see it live.
2. the viewsonic at fry's is $799 after rebate. The 2405 is only $60 more.
3. 4 more inches, and a more natural widescreen aspect ratio. that's just how our eyes are used to processing info.
4. Not everyone games. This monitor's resolution is perfect for native hdtv resolution.
5. It is essentially a nice hdtv with far greater resolution than any hdtv at this price. Most hdtv's don't even have 1920x1080 pixels.
6. It's dirt cheap.

I jumped in. We'll see. The early reviews are promising. No backlight issues and with Benq as with the 2001fp, way less number of dead pixels than the 2005fpw. That monitor was a debacle if you ask me.

the monitor is stated as supporting 16.7m colours, that is 8bit colour.

6bit panels usually just say 16m colours which IMHO is a deliberate fudge, the more honest ones specify 16.2m colours which is what a 6bit panel is capable of.

This monitor is great!! The other nice things I like about it are the 9 in 1 flash card reader, USB ports, PIP, and PBP. Playing UT2004 at 1920x1200 .. loving every pixel of it

wannabe, you're absolutely right that it has taken longer for 8-bit panels to catch up on their brethen 6-bitters, but it IS happening. To say the 2405FPW is "close to first for any 8 bit panel that is 12-16 ms" is very wrong, since the 16ms 8-bit Dell 2001FP/ Viewsonic VP201 has been out for donkeys' years*.

*longer than a year, possibly even two, I don't have the numbers on me

fair and appreciated input - I'll call Dell support vs sales because I really would prefer the better color over the speed (I don't game much at all, but video is a desire)... thx

wannabe, I can definitely understand your desire to know the truth and have the best panel you can get. I don't think the issue with this monitor is colors, I think its that it doesn't have gamma/contrast set right, as adjusting those makes a world of difference in the color department. Hope Dell can give you a straight and correct answer. If it did somehow happen to be a 6-bit panel, well I'm curious to see what the backlash against Dell would be (I personally would be disappointed, but don't know if I'd return the monitor unless they said they would fix it and replace it free of charge).

Xatrix, no, your GT will not be able to handle games at 1920x1200. I've been using an X850XT PE with it, and things are just barely over that line where they become playable versus unplayable (due to smoothness/framerates). Granted this is with everything turned up high and with AA/AF if the game allows for it.

Well yeah, I guess if you turned things down then it would be fine on your GT, but personally, I'd rather have it run 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 and have eye candy on then run the native resolution (it scales well enough that it should look better at the lower res with the eye candy than at the higher one without).

Definitely..

Might have to cut back on AA and AF a bit...

But there aren't many "jaggies" @ 1920x1200

I have no beef about the monitor. But for the price, you can get about 2 2005fpws. From my 2005fpw experience, 2 side by side will give you a total immersive environment, not mentioning double the pixel counts.

So, I say if you have aboslutely no concern with $, go for 2004fpw. Otherwise, get one or two 2005fpws!!!!!!

Yeah I've got a 6800 GT oc'd with a AMD 3200+ and can run games fine, High Quality DOOM3 timedemo1 35fps, 50fps in UT2004, I lent out my copy of farcry so I'm not sure about that, but from what i've heard, that should run fine too - it just takes a little gettin used to playing widescreen. Your eyes jump around a lot more. Has anyone used this with thier xbox or gamecube yet. I haven't got the cables yet so I am wondering if its worth spending all that money to get 'em.

I was very dissapointed with the quality using a ps2 and gamecube. I hooked both up and the picture was not clear at all. Can't compete with a tv. I used component for ps2 and svideo for gamecube.

Isocene Can I get the information for the 860 deal? They said 925 and are refusing 860, but maybe if I talk to a different representative I can get that deal?

I dont think they are offering the deal at that price anymore. I would take that 925 before it goes up.

Are you talking about before or after tax? It was always 860 before taxes. So unless you live in the two states who don't have sales tax then it is going to be in the low 900's. Mine was 860 + 51 in tax.

860 Before tax.

But that's still better than 925 before tax. JBT do you have a representative I can talk to ?

Now I've got to upgrade from Ti-4200 128MB video card. Damn!!! This purchase is getting expensive!!!

Well fellas, I guess I can spend the savings on, a video card, recommendations on $250 video card? Too ... bad Uncle Sam bent me over this year!!! Bastard. Anyone ever notice that Uncle Sam has a striking resemblence to a "Pimp", I mean what other people do you know that can walk around with a cap, a cane, goatee, and top hat and be taken seriously. Not only is he taken seriously but he asks you how much you think you owe him and simply waits for you to drop in the check in the mail like the good little "ho*" you are. And you know what I send him his money just like he tells me to.
