That's not impossible by all means, however .... that's pretty unlikely this year

I jumped on this about a month ago and can't say how pleased I am. This thing is absolutly gorgeous. Anyone who is debating the 2405FPW vs. 2005FPW, it's not really much of a comparison. It just needs to be seen before the money doesn't matter. This is coming from someone who was still using old Sony Trinitron CRT's because LCDs were too expensive for what you got. I needed bigger than 1024x1280 or 1600x1200. 1900x1200 is PERFECT for a display this size. This thing I intend to keep forever (or until it dies )

Buy it. Don't wait. Get it now.

I missed the orig deals at <$900 and spent the next 3 months checking the forums and looking for a comparable price. I wish I had just bought it then. Wasted way too much time and missed the enjoyment of this monitor.

RossMan, Lets assume the price gets down to 649 in 12 mo, you would save 200 but will miss 12 mo of decadence which would only cost you 16.67 a month. Size does matter and the extra few inches are worth it! Skip a lunch out once a month and get it now.

Okay, let me do the math for all of you who are trying to convince yourself that the 2405 "isnt worth the price" compared to your "stellar deal" 2005/2001 fp(w).

Here is a recent deal on all dell monitors, pulled from fatwallet

Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD $1199 - 25% = $899
Dell 2005FPW 20.1" LCD $749.00 - 35%
Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD $749 - 30% - $60 = $464
Dell 1905FPT 19" LCD $479 - 30% - $30 = $329
Dell 1704FPT 17" LCD $329 - 30% - $30 = $200

Hmm, $135 premium to go up 1 inch from 19" to 20". Let's add 4 more inches at $135 each to the $464 pricetag of the 2005fpw, and see how much the owners of 2005's are really willing to pay "for four more inches". 464 + (135*4) = $1005.

[/quote]

Not that I completely disagree with you, but using the same logic, we could take the difference between the 17 and 19 inch moniters and see that it's about $65 per inch, multiplied by four means a grand total of $260. Since the 2005fpw is currently at about 440, that means that $700 dollars is the only price that makes good sense.

OR we could use both methods and take an average, ($65+$135)/2=$100 per inch. So 440+4(100)=$840 and the price is just right. Kind of makes you wonder if that's how Dell does it...

We could do math all day but it really comes down to how much you're willing to spend on a moniter all at once compared to what you want to use it for and how long you expect it to last before you absolutely need the next BIG thing, literally in this case. Wild1 has a good point; if you are sure you need this moniter, then get it by all means and don't look back.

For those doing inches comparisons, since one is 4:3 and the other is 16:9/16:10, the only fair comparison is pixels for dollars so:

2560x1600 - Apple 30" : 1463 pixels per dollar
1920x1200 - 2405FPW : 2742 pixels per dollar
1680x1050 - 2005FPW : 3629 pixels per dollar
1600x1200 - 2001FP : 4137 pixels per dollar

I called normal Dell sales at 1-800-WWW-DELL and got the run around. First claimed 20% off was the best, then offered 25% for ~ $900 with free 2nd day shipping. Claimed they could not do $840.00. I guess talking to one of those specific reps is required.

Yes but any of the WIPRO reps will give you this deal.

For those who could also use a Dimension 9100 Desktop (for $360 more), check out this thread

FYI, 'Andy' just emailed me today asking me if he should call to place the order for the monitor. I had already bought through the nice lady a while ago, but it proves the deal is still on for at least today. I still can't believe I own this monitor!

Lol, I tried to call Patricia and see if I could get a discount price on the 2005. Her price was 449$.. which is okay, except that you can get the monitor for 436 and coins (after dell home % coupon and stacked 65$ coupon). She said she would not be able to beat that price

I spoke to "Stan" and 2405 for $840 is still live. He claims that he will do price adjustment if it goes below $840 forat least the next 30 days. Should I pull the trigger on this one?

Well I paid $830 plus tax with today's deal...even better if you use DPA (another $25 off...plus 3% fatcash ~25) so really you can get it for $780.

The guy at wipro said he can pricematch but he would need to see the order of the of the lower price. Can someone supply me with their order number? Though it sounds like the best way to go if you don't have DPA is to buy online and use an ebay coupon plus fatcash to get it close to $800 before tax...but it's ground shipping vs. wipro giving 2 day shipping.

Just got in with $863, free shipping, no tax with 28% code. Used DPA, but it didn't apply an extra discount (though tax disappeared!). Pending 120 days for fatcash 3%, heh..
