Okay, let me do the math for all of you who are trying to convince yourself that the 2405 "isnt worth the price" compared to your "stellar deal" 2005/2001 fp(w).
Here is a recent deal on all dell monitors, pulled from
fatwallet
Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD $1199 - 25% = $899
Dell 2005FPW 20.1" LCD $749.00 - 35%
Dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD $749 - 30% - $60 = $464
Dell 1905FPT 19" LCD $479 - 30% - $30 = $329
Dell 1704FPT 17" LCD $329 - 30% - $30 = $200
Hmm, $135 premium to go up 1 inch from 19" to 20". Let's add 4 more inches at $135 each to the $464 pricetag of the 2005fpw, and see how much the owners of 2005's are really willing to pay "for four more inches". 464 + (135*4) = $1005.

Not that I completely disagree with you, but using the same logic, we could take the difference between the 17 and 19 inch moniters and see that it's about $65 per inch, multiplied by four means a grand total of $260. Since the 2005fpw is currently at about 440, that means that $700 dollars is the only price that makes good sense.
OR we could use both methods and take an average, ($65+$135)/2=$100 per inch. So 440+4(100)=$840 and the price is just right. Kind of makes you wonder if that's how Dell does it...
We could do math all day but it really comes down to how much you're willing to spend on a moniter all at once compared to what you want to use it for and how long you expect it to last before you absolutely need the next BIG thing, literally in this case. Wild1 has a good point; if you are sure you need this moniter, then get it by all means and don't look back.
