I've been waiting for a deal on an LCD monitor since mine went dead on me. Decided to bite the bullet and grab this guy for $881.02 after the 2% DPA discount. Not a steal, but not a bad price either.

Thanks to the OP for the info!

Very hot price, the lowest I have seen since it was $849 a few months ago.

Thanks, finally bit. Too bad they don't ship to PO boxes, I live right next to Oregon. Shipping there could have saved me 70 in tax

This is the first deal I've seen on this 2405FPW in awhile. If you can get this without TAX this is BLAZING. Definitely a good price for the rest of us.....

you can get pci video cards at almost any online vendor. just check newegg, and find one that fits your need. do a topical search, like go to video cards, then select pci interface, etc.

just wondering how this worked because I have a 6800 with dual DVI so would I just get a 2nd PCI / PCI express card ?

I was never aware that you could run two video cards at the same time unless you need a special type card?

are you saying I would be able to operate say any old PCI express X300 on one display and my 6800 on the other two at the same time

i have a dual dvi nvidia 6800 and 2x2001 right now. i would assume a third monitor comes into the PCI slot

newer rigs on the intel boards might have a PCI x8 slot and i think you can do a modificiation to the slot similar to the PCI x8 mod trick on the Dell PE420SC rigs. so potentially you might be able to add a second graphic card w/dual dvi and then have up to 4 monitors on dvi.

or, i would assume you can take the easy way out and get a SLi board with 2 nvidia dual dvi cards and be happy that you're still not bankrupt

How is dell in terms of getting the item out by or before the estimated shipping date? mine is estimated at June 23 btw.

Most likely ship way before it.

I ordered the 2405 FPW from Dell on May 30. I got the monitor June 9th despite the estimated 3 week shipping date.

Correct.

Dell's order status and estimated ship date usually overshoot by 1-2 weeks.

Even if you are just using the 2405 for 2D office work, I'd get an SLI board or the DFI Ultra with two x16-compatible slots and use two decent x16 cards to get three DVI-outs, since most of the regular PCI graphics card tend to use older chipsets that were dogs when it came to DVI output quality. Even though the connection is digital some cheaper cards are out of compliance with the high end of the specs so they don't look so hot on high res displays. Check out Extremetech's DVI compliance testing here for more details. The gist of it is that you want to stay far away from the GeForce FX cards if you have a high res LCD. I think the 6000 series is better, but I haven't seen any of them in standard PCI yet.

I'd especially stay away from the PCI FX5200 cards if you intend to hook up a 2405FPW to it. I used an AGP FX5200 in one build recently (since it was mainly going to be an office machine) and it had all sorts of issues with the card and a 1905FP. The monitor wouldn't come back on when you rotated the desktop into portrait mode and sometimes the monitor would not come on when the computer was powered up. Figuring the crap DVI transmitter in the 5200 series cars was causing the issue, I swapped out the card for a Radeon 9600 and all the problems went away. I figure the PCI FX5200s have even cheaper and crappiers TMDS transmitter and it the 2405FPW would be especially sensitive to the poor DVI output quality.
