Got mine yesterday. S'marvelous. Makes my NEC CRT (set to 9300°K, constrast all the way up) look dull. Anyone who is sketched out because the SAMSUNG 244T is 50 more candelas a meter is out of his/her gourd. I want to get a second one, but it's just not fast enough for gaming, so the CRT is staying [until I buy another computer]. The 2000FP is off to eBay.

I bought one in mid-August from Dell Home when the list was $879. But after a 25%-off coupon, a 2% Dell Preferred Account discount and a 3% Fatcash kickback, my final delivered price was $626 w/free shipping (and no tax--I'm in one of the few remaining states where Dell doesn't charge tax).

But sadly it was all for naught. My revision A02 monitor had glaring defects: grossly uneven backlight, color banding, and bizarre yellow-green ghosting of text while scrolling. Other than that, the picture looked great. Rev. A03 displays were out by the time I RMA'ed it, and I asked that my return be exchanged for one of those. But Dell shined me on on that one and instead returned my money.

I haven't been keeping up of late with the consensus on A03 quality issues, but I know there have at least been some. I'm sure there's plenty of good and current info at Dell's forum.

I have an A03 revision and the banding is gone from what I can tell. I had the same yellow/green ghosting but that was solved by reducing the brightness to a more reasonable level. The brightness was way to high from the factory. As for the banding I doubt most people would even notice it if it weren't for the internet. Everyone obsesses over it like it was the worst thing ever. My sister has a 2007FP and has never noticed any banding. I'm sure 98% of everyday users wouldn't ever see it.

Decent price, but it'll drop sharply next year, judging from current trends (this was the year of the cheap 22" LCD). I guess if you've got a PS3 and need that 1080p HDCP, it's a pretty reasonable value.

I picked up one of these when I got a new Dell system last year. Cost me about the same then, thanks to a reall good deal. All in all, one of the better investments I've made. I do a ton of video and photo editing (all for home use), and the image on this baby is just glorious. Also, the 24" size allows for great side by side document work (useful, since I do a lot of document comparison work in my profession).

All in all, this is a really great unit and if it's in your budget, I highly recommend it.

Why are 750GB hard drives $300-350 when 320GB's can be had for $85? Why are 8800GTX Graphics cards $650 when 7900GTX's can be found for $300+?

you get what you pay for, and the top of the line stuff will always come at a premium. Don't like it? Don't buy it. This is an excellent price for an excellent piece of hardware. To some, the 750GB drives are well worth the premium over 320's (4x750GB raid5 == awesome), and 24" LCD's are better than a 22" LCD, because they are...

1680 X 1050 vs 1920 X 1200. Higher resolution + more viewing area = more $$

I just gotta say that at these prices they're a steal. I got my 2405fpw for $900 and love it. A 2407 for about $700 (even $600) is a no brainer if you have the cash.

Sure you could wait a year and get it for $100 less but isn't it worth $100 to use the monitor for a year?

Tough to make that claim, considering, what, 3-5 years ago 15" crap LCD's were like $1000+? Everything drops in price eventually, but in the case of the 24" Dell I doubt it drops to $500 before the year is up. Maybe before next year's end I'd say.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that this is the price for the Gateway 24". Has anybody seen a Gateway 24" or read any reviews? I wonder how it compares. I love my 21" Gateway and was considering it.

But it's not the same price, when you consider that Gateway gouges buyers $55 for shipping, and then provides only a one-year warranty.

Great point. Still, I'd love to know how they compare side by side. I do like being able to rotate my Gateway, but if the Dell is otherwise better I'd go for it. You can get the Gateway stand for $70 and then rotate the Dell.

I'd like to know how they compare too, given what great reviews the Gateway 21" got (kudos apparently seconded by your own experience). But the Dell does pivot vertically, no modifications needed. However, the 2407WFP's height adjustable stand was another thing I didn't like about it, in the short time I had one. For me it just didn't go high enough (I'm 6 ft., but kinda long torsoed). Still, if Dell would ever send out 25% coupons again--which may not happen soon, given their recent drop in profits--I'd be tempted to try a rev. A03 monitor, as I can deal with the stand issue through subsequent customizations...

I been looking into this monitor but my folks won't pitch in the $400
$ 577 * .08 TAX=$ 48+ $ 577= $624

Taxes it always kills me
Any Idea if this will get cheaper by the end of the year???????

No it's not. You have to add it to your cart to see the final $577 price.

Note that the Ltd Warranty is subject to one of the 15% coupons, but not the other- decent if you wanted to get the 4 or 5 yr, though sadly completecare isn't offered with the 2407.
